The Impact of Cashless Payment Trend on Banks and its Clients
FISCHEROVÁ, Tereza
The first part of the bachelor thesis describes the development of the payment system from the beginning of money to modern payment methods. The theoretical part discusses in detail the advantages, disadvantages and different methods of cash and non-cash payment. The aim of the practical part of the thesis is to find out how clients of the selected bank ČSOB, a. s. react to the changes introduced by the bank in connection with the payment system, whether they agree with them or, on the contrary, whether these changes may cause dissatisfaction of clients and subsequent switch to a competing commercial bank. In the event that customer churn does occur, the objective is to determine whether the bank's operational cost savings offset the lost profits from the loss of customers. The most significant changes in the banking market are the closure of branches, the promotion of online banking and the increase in the price of services that require the presence of bankers. To address the bachelor thesis, a comparison of a questionnaire distributed to clients of ČSOB, a. s. with the bank's annual reports in the period 2012-2022 was used. The practical part resulted in the finding that even though clients accept the banking changes in majority, the bank is not able to reduce operating costs. The most important ones should be staff costs and branch operations.
