The nursing care with clients after aesthetic plastic surgeries
MÍLOVÁ, Veronika
Aesthetic plastic surgeries are highly specific operations which help patients both physically and mentally. This bachelor{\crq}s thesis focuses on breast reshaping, reduction and augmentation, liposuction, face-lift and abdominoplasty, predominantly on nursing care for clients after these operations. Nurses working in the department of plastic surgery must be perfectly skilled in preoperative and postoperative nursing care, but they should also be familiar with surgical techniques related to nursing care. Nurses must know about compression garments, the monitoring of physiological functions, postoperative massage techniques, and so on. Nurses working in this area of surgery should remember that the client is a biopsychosocial-spiritual being with psyche, perceptions, and feelings. They should provide clients with support and help, while maintaining a professional approach. The investigative part of this thesis examines nursing care for patients after aesthetic plastic surgery from a nurse{\crq}s viewpoint. We decided to study this issue in particular because every aesthetic plastic operation has certain specifics. We wanted to find out whether nurses are aware of these differences and well versed in them. This knowledge should include in particular choosing the correct size of compression garments and how to apply them, parameters and values of physiological and vital functions, communication with foreigners, analgesia, redressing, recovery from anaesthesia and surgery. Moreover, rehabilitation nursing, and help with the patient{\crq}s self-care are also part of a nurse{\crq}s work in the department of plastic surgery. The primary objective of this thesis was to find out whether nurses are skilled at providing nursing care after aesthetic plastic surgery. The other objective was to reveal if they know the specifics of nursing care after respective types of operations. Both these objectives were met in this Bachelor{\crq}s thesis. A total of five hypotheses were formulated as follows: nurses are proficient in providing nursing care after aesthetic plastic surgery, they know specifics of nursing care following breast surgery, liposuction, abdominal surgery, and face-lift. All these hypotheses were confirmed. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on aesthetic plastic surgery, specifically breast surgery, abdominal surgery, face-lift and liposuction, and nursing care before and after these procedures. The practical part is based on data acquisition using anonymous questionnaires, and candid objective observations. The research population were nurses providing nursing care after aesthetic plastic surgery. The questionnaires were filled out by nurses from Prague, České Budějovice, Plzeň, and Třinec. Observations were conducted at the Department of Plastic Surgery in České Budějovice. This work can be used in practice for example during seminars or to formulate standards of nursing care.
