Influence of placebo effect on sports performance
Jarchovská, Alžběta ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Starnovská, Tamara (referee)
Introduction: Placebo has long been a well-known concept and the placebo effect phenomenon has been studied in a number of medical fields. In addition to its effect on pain, depression and other illnesses, other attempts are increasingly being made to find a possible use of the placebo effect. The aim of the thesis was to determine whether the administration of placebo has an effect on sports performance. Methodology: The research was conducted in two phases. The first phase was the measurement of three runs of amateur crossfit athletes at a distance of 800 m. After the run, time and subjective evaluation of the perceived effort Borg scale were writen down. In the first run placebo was administered, in the second run a commercially available preworkout supplement(L-carnitine) was administered and the third run was a control run without a tablet. The measurement results were statistically processed using Student's two-sample unpaired t-test to the mean value. The second part consisted of filling in questionnaires and then processing the resulting data. Results: After evaluating the research part, we found that in our research, placebo had no effect on athletic performance. Conclusion: The placebo and placebo effects have proven effects in many industries. Further research is needed on placebo and...
Patients'Recruitment Issues in Clinical Trials
Hrubá, Dagmar ; Doskočil, Ondřej (advisor) ; Štegmannová, Ingrid (referee)
This thesis examines patient recruitment in clinical trials. It is a current and pressing issue, which is not sufficiently embedded in the thinking of doctors and patients, their patterns of communication, and more broadly in the traditional doctor-patient relationship, which continues to be burdened by post-socialist paternalism. The formal framework and ethics have been developed relatively recently, and their application causes confusion to all participants regarding how to proceed in specific situations. In addition, the choice of topic, and especially the form of dealing with the topic, was motivated by the relative lack of academic resources and publications in the field. The theoretical section of the thesis defines clinical research and its phases, and introduces basic terminology and documents closely linked to clinical research. In addition, it focuses on research ethics, thoroughly examining the issue of informed consent - a fundamental document necessary for recruiting a patient in a clinical trial. Finally, one chapter of the thesis focuses on the issue of medical literacy, the level of which is integral to the participants' understanding of the importance of clinical research, and directly affects participants' decision-making. The empirical section is divided into two parts. The...
Attitudes of physitians of the region of the South Bohemia to the unconventional medicine
ČÁBELKOVÁ, Petra
: This thesis focuses on monitoring attitudes of general practitioners in Southern Bohemia toward non-conventional medicine. In its theoretical part, the thesis deals with clarifying the concepts of non-conventional medicine, alternative medicine, and scientific medicine. Furthermore, the thesis describes various approaches to non-conventional medicine. In its practical part I examined the level of knowledge about non-conventional medicine among doctors. The research was conducted through anonymous questionnaires filled in by general practitioners. The questionnaires were then used for creating the charts. These charts indicate how doctors view various approaches to non-conventional medicine, to what extent they support using these methods among their patience, and how they view the quality of medical education in this area in the Czech Republic.

Faith in Us
Jindra, Jakub ; Cenek, Filip (referee) ; Fajnor, Richard (advisor)
In religious faith I am finding the similar principle to the placebo effect. Placebo effect is associated to human belief and it is so powerful phenomenon that if the new drug in medicine is tested it has to be done through double-blind studies to eliminate the effect of placebo. Without this elimination, even non-working medicaments are having positive impact. In medicine, a placebo is commonly used to cure physiological or psychological problem, to achieve the effect, result. But there are other ways where we can meet placebo and is not it so easily recognized. Placebo can be a message, political doctrine or religious belief. Placebo investigates a mysterious area of effect without apparent cause, it is merely a reflection of our state of mind. Religion wraps its doctrine in sparkly packaging, tinsel, so that it is easily consumable and friendly. But under the wrapping is nothing but a placebo pill, we are attracted to, and which we may or may not believe will work. The pill is nothing, has no content, it is empty. It is in some way false, fake and illusory. But the most interesting part is that works reliably for decades.
