Knowledge of Idioms in Basic School Pupils

This thesis focuses on phraseology and its integration into the teaching of Czech language and literature in primary school. The aim is to present a detailed analysis of a research investigation focused on the knowledge of idioms among pupils of a selected primary school. In the theoretical part of the thesis, firstly, important concepts in the field of phraseology are defined - definition, characteristics and functions of idioms, their updating. Subsequently, it is observed how the phraseology curriculum is integrated into the Framework Educational Programme for Primary Education and the School Educational Programme of the selected primary school. Furthermore, a detailed analysis of the phraseology curriculum in selected textbooks of Czech language and literature for primary schools is presented. This thesis presents previous research on the knowledge and understanding of phraseology and presents their results. The practical part of the thesis deals with a research investigation in which pupils of the second stage of the selected primary school and pupils of the fourth and fifth grades of the first stage of the same school took part. Phraseologisms in fairy tales of brothers Grimm and their reproduction in Czech translation

The thesis deals with phraseologisms in The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales and their reproduction in Czech translation. The basic concepts of phraseology are described in the theoretical part. Furthermore, there is described the meaning of phraseological units in language and there are explained their individual attributes. Then, basic concepts of contrastive phraseology are defined and phraseological and non-phraseological types of equivalence are determined. The corpus of phraseologisms from twelve selected Grimm´s Fairy Tales (Tangled, The Town Musicians of Bremen, Mother Holle, Little Red Cap, Puss in Boots, The Six Servants, Cinderella, Snow White, Briar Rose, The Frog King or Iron Heinrich, Rumpelstiltskin, The golden Goose) is gathered in the practical part. To these German phraseologisms there are assigned their Czech phraseological and non-phraseological equivalents. The acquired paired units represent the described types of equivalence. These types of equivalence are analysed on demonstrative examples. The thesis is also interested in Czech translation of German phraseologisms and it comprises the quantitative results.
Linguistics and didactic problems in teaching Czech language to Ukrainian native speakers

The topic of the bachelor thesis is linguistic and didactic problems arising in the teaching of the Czech language for foreign language speakers from Ukraine and Russia. Thus, attention is focused on difficult phenomena in the morphological and lexical plan (including phraseology), or even syntactic. The analysis of language material obtained from practical teaching will provide ideas for solving some problematic sections of grammar. The aim of the bachelor's thesis will be proposals for didactic procedure in the interpretation of selected grammatical and lexical phenomena and some recommendations used to master the curriculum.
Germanisms as components of phrasemes in Czech language

This thesis deals with Germanisms, which are part of Czech idioms. Germanisms are words borrowed from the German language into our mother tongue. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the science of phraseology, its history, principles and types of idioms and it deals with the ways of vocabulary enrichment. The aim of this thesis was to find out whether idioms with Germanisms are still known for primary school pupils and for high school and university students today. The research was conducted at different types of schools in different towns, which are situated at varying distances from the borders with the German speaking countries. The results show that high school and university students achieve a greater knowledge of idioms, and that the distance of the school attended or the distance of residence from the border also plays a significant role in the vocabulary of young individuals. There are outlined didactic activities for working with idioms in German language lessons at the end of the thesis.
Conceptualization and metaphors: contrastive analysis of somatic phraseology in Czech and Spanish

The present Master thesis deals with the study of somatic idioms which contain the lexeme ruka ("mano") in Czech and Spanish language. The goal of this work is to analyse the metaphors and metonymies that are present in the studied phraseological units and to compare their distribution in the languages that are studied. The work is divided into a theoretical part, whose chapters contain the explanation of crucial concepts in the field of phraseology, the relation between language and cognition, basic principles of cognitive linguistics and a view on teaching of phraseology. The subject of the second, practical, part is the list of the metaphors and metonymies present in studied units and their detailed description. The practical part also contains a contrastive analysis of the results between Czech and Spanish with the focus at the similarities and differences. The work is written in Spanish and contains Czech summary.
Translation of selected lexical units using machine translation tools.

The present Master thesis deals with the translation of selected lexical units by tool- supporting machine translation. The aim of this study is, on one hand, to identify the limit of the effectiveness of translations of phraseological units, which meaning is associated with diverse parts of the human body. On the other hand, to determine the efficiency of the system as a supporting learning tool for the study of the Spanish language. The first part, the Theoretical Framework, includes a brief introduction of the history of machine translation as well as the selected translators in the investigation. Additionally, this part encloses the theory of phraseology, the corpus that provides the base for the research, the didactical proposal, and the problematical issues of teaching somatic phraseology to students of the Spanish language. The second part, the Methodology, is focused on the translation of selected phraseology by Bing Microsoft Translate, Babylon, My Memory and Google Translate. At the end of the thesis, the statistics of the validity of the translation are presented.

The world of plants in phraseology and folk lore from the contrastive view of German and Czech.

The paper presented assesses German phraseology including plant names and their consecutive translation into Czech. Subsequently, the idioms are divided into four groups according to the degree of correspondence, each being accompanied with an example. The graphs and tables attached for clearer summary. The conclusion has been devoted to the results of investigation and translation of idioms from the contrastive phraseology point of view.
