French in Belgium

The aim of this research is to study the French language used in Belgium, to describe the linguistic situation and some peculiarities of the language there, and to compare it with French language used in France. The author lived in Belgium for nearly six years and compared her experience of the differences between the French language in Belgium with the one used in France. To explore her impressions, she has studied and analysed different sources on the topic and summarised the most important differences. The research is divided in two parts. One gives more general information on Belgium, describes the history of the territory and the linguistic situation of the country to help understand the situation of the French language there. The other, more important part on the language itself describes the phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical particularities of Belgian French. The basic conclusion of this paper is that Belgian French is slightly different from French used in France but the differences are not great enough to make understanding between the two nations difficult.
Neologisms in Thurber's selected works as translated by Radoslav Nenadál

In this thesis I have considered neologisms and word plays from three children stories of James Thurber: The 13 Clocks, The White Deer, and The Wonderful O. The first part of the thesis is concerned solely with examples from the original. For the sake of structure I have divided the material into categories based on the motivation and processes employed in their formation: lexical and association-based in case of neologisms, and complex word plays created by shifting letters and parts of words, or working with the peculiarities of English pronunciation. The second part contains analysis of the same neologisms and word plays in Czech as translated by Radoslav Nenadál. It is structured according to the nature and result of the translation: there are neologisms translated by using extant Czech words, neologisms translated by forming a new compound, translations preserving both form and content of the original, translations preserving the form of the original but differing in the content and implications, translations preserving the content but changing the form, and translations preserving neither the form nor the content of the original. Linguistic analysis of Petr Nikl's works

The content of this paper is a linguistic analysis of Petr Nikl's texts. Petr Nikl is an all-round artist. His main activity is graphic arts; he is also engaged in the Puppet Theater, he sings with a music group Lakomé Barky and writes children books. The aim of this study is to determine if the author respects the child perspective in his works. Especially if he uses only such language elements, that are appropriate for children. After a thorough analysis of all Nikl's books (Pohádka o Rybitince (2001), O Rybabě a Mořské duši (2002), Lingvistické pohádky (2006), Záhádky (2007), Jělěňovití (2008) a Niklův Blázníček (2009), I concluded that the author respects only some elements of the perspective of a child. The syntactic structure of the text is uncomplicated and therefore children appropriate. From the lexical point of view the situation is not so clear. The author uses simple metaphors, similes, uses words that mostly originate from the national origin, and often uses emotive words. On the other hand, uncommon and literary words and complicated poetic neologisms, that most children cannot know, occur in his texts quite frequently. From the morphological point of view I do not find any significant obstacles, so that children could not read and enjoy his works. But these obstacles can occur on the...

The Language of Šimon Lomnický of Budeč

The subject of my graduation is an analyse of the language of Šimon Lomnický z Budče in his publication Instrukcí aneb Krátké naučení hospodáře mladého... (1586). The thesis reports about the characteristic of phonetic, formative and lexical side of his language. The main attention is devoted to the word-stock and its analyse from different points of view including the phraseology. The purpose of the thesis is an evaluation of the language of Šimon Lomnický as a representative of the period language at the turn of 16th and 17th century.
