Walking aids - review

This thesis is focused on walking aids. Exoskeletons an active (robotic) orthosis have achieved great development since its inception and have a large range of application. In this thesis I will focus on active orthosis that are intended for the disabled and the elderly. Described are the concepts of walking aids and recently implemented projects. Part of this thesis is an evaluation criteria proposal and evaluating of each concept according to these criteria. In the end the main developmental progress and problems yet to be overcome are summarized.
Nursing care of patient with quadriplegia

The bachelor thesis focuses on nursing care of a quadruplegic patient. The theoretical part describes anatomy and physiology of spine and spinal cord, characteristics of disability, first aid, etiology, symptomatology, diagnostics, therapy, complications and nursing care. The sources for an elaboration of the theoretical part were found in the National Medical Library, via Medvik, on Wikiscriptions, on the thesis repositories and on the Spinal Unit website. For a larger amount of resources, research was made in the National Medical Library based on keywords. For the elaboration of the practical part, a qualitative research method was chosen in the form of a case study of a patient with quadruplegia. Case study includes information from medical records, interviews with the patient and observations. The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to process a case study, which includes a nursing plan of a selected patient with all the specifics, that the care for the quadruplegic patient brings us. The second goal is to raise the awareness of the care provided on the spinal unit amongst general public and healthcare commmunity. A candidate protein from the venom gland of parasitoid wasp, Habrobracon hebetor, predicted to be responsible for the paralysis of lepidopteran caterpillars, was produced in baculovirus and bacterial expression systems. The function of both recombinant protein variants was confirmed by in vivo tests in Galleria mellonella larvae.
"The Dead" - A critical compilation of existing interpretations

The essay collects and discusses several reading perspectives of 'The Dead,' a short-story by James Joyce from his collection Dubliners (1914). It contends that the story is very much open to creative reading and subjective interpretation, as it may be seen as a platform for various discourses, hidden and unfinished stories, themes, historical testimonies, etc. It argues that 'The Dead' even successfully dramatizes the very event of interpreting a literary text. At the same time, the paper pays attention to how the story is closely tied to its author's personality, life history, and how the whole collection to great extent derives from Joyce's overall scepticism held towards his countrymen in Dublin. The chapter "A Biographical Reading" discusses James Joyce as an interpretive principle for the story. It reflects on Richard Ellmann's essay "The Backgrounds of 'The Dead'" and notes its positive aspects, but it also acknowledges drawbacks of what is called a biographical method of reading 'The Dead.' The next chapter, "The Dubliners Project," starts by outlining two reading perspectives that don't defy one another, but may rather be seen as mutually enriching.
