The importance of inland waterway transport for European international trade focused on Port of Bratislava

The thesis investigates the significance, development as well as the future prognoses of the European trade within the scope of inland waterway transport. The aim of the thesis is to describe the present condition of the European international inland waterways and their freight traffic efficiency. The practical part of the thesis is aimed at describing the actual state of Port of Bratislava including its historical meaning. This part of the thesis is targeted at the importance of the Port within the frame of the Rhine-Main-Danube waterway. The chapters involve the significance of the transloading of freight for Slovak exports and imports as well as the actual projects intended for the development of the port. The output of the thesis is the SWOT analysis of the Port of Bratislava, which is based on the gained knowledge and facts described in the thesis. The aim of the SWOT analysis is to evaluate the strengths, the weaknesses as well as the opportunities and the threats.
