Germanisms as components of phrasemes in Czech language

This thesis deals with Germanisms, which are part of Czech idioms. Germanisms are words borrowed from the German language into our mother tongue. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the science of phraseology, its history, principles and types of idioms and it deals with the ways of vocabulary enrichment. The aim of this thesis was to find out whether idioms with Germanisms are still known for primary school pupils and for high school and university students today. The research was conducted at different types of schools in different towns, which are situated at varying distances from the borders with the German speaking countries. The results show that high school and university students achieve a greater knowledge of idioms, and that the distance of the school attended or the distance of residence from the border also plays a significant role in the vocabulary of young individuals. There are outlined didactic activities for working with idioms in German language lessons at the end of the thesis.

Greek as a Source of Enrichment of the Czech Vocabulary

Helena Petáková, Greek as a source of enrichment of the Czech vocabulary Abstract: The Masterʼs thesis examines the influence of the Greek language on the Czech vocabulary from different angles. In the introduction, we define basic terms, which we use in the text, especially "loanword" and with it synonymous "lexical borrowing". Next chapter is devoted to the issues of lexical borrowing in general (motivation, ways of involvement of foreign words in the system of the recipient language, and the sorting options of the loanwords). The third chapter maps borrowing of the Greek words into the Czech language in various periods of development. Furthermore, we are interested in the Czech reception of the Greek language (the admiration of Greek, comparison of Czech with Greek) in the crucial moments of modern history and its connection with national and linguistic defensive trends. After this cultural-historical insight, in the fifth, sixth and seventh chapter we return to the lexical borrowings from Greek. We follow various means by which they entered the Czech language, the way of their involvement in the Czech vocabulary, and finally the semantic and stylistic spheres, in which the Graecisms were most applied in our country. Romanisms in the terminology of the New Civil Code and their French equivalents

This work is concerned with romanisms which appear in the terminology of Nový občanský zákoník (Czech Civil Code) and with translation of selected terms into French while special attention is paid to legal concepts. The first chapters deal with the themes of legal language and its translation, translation techniques, loanwords in the Czech language, and romanisms. The following chapter describes the research and the methodology, in addition to analyse of the received results from the perspective of found romanisms and from the perspective of searching appropriate French equivalents. The output of this thesis is a glossary which contains the selected terms and the proposed French translations.

Comparison of the English, Russian and Czech Vocabulary in the Field of Motorsport

This bachelor thesis deals with the English, Russian and Czech vocabulary in the field of motorsport, especially Formula 1. The theoretical part of the thesis concerns lexicology as a part of linguistic, its significance and disciplines. Then it describes the process of word formation in detail, mainly the process of borrowing. In the theoretical part there is also described the environment of Formula 1, distribution of the sport and its historical development in brief. The practical part of the thesis compares lexical units in English, Russian and Czech. Each of the chosen units contains its meaning, origin and an example of the use of the unit in a collocation. The aim of the thesis is not only to compare the vocabulary of different languages, but also to determine the measure in which English influences the Czech and Russian vocabulary in this field. German loanwords in Russian and Czech languages

This thesis is concerned with German loanwords in Russian and Czech languages. The main aim was to create a dictionary based on comparison of phonetically resembling equivalents of German words in Russian and Czech, to explain their semantic and stylistic differences and classify them with respect to their productive or perceptive character. In order to achieve this goal first of all it was necessary to establish a key to choose the words which will be used in this work. For this task Краткий этимологический словарь русского языка: Пособие для учителя was selected as the main source. The choice was made due to a fact that this book is intended for primary and secondary school teachers and, therefore, contains words which are most likely to appear while teaching Russian language. The only criterion for choosing words from this book was whether they are loanwords from German or not. All the words borrowed from German were first translated into Czech. If there were not any translations which have similar pronunciation to the original Russian word a phonetically resembling word was chosen. In case similar words with German origin are found in both Czech and Russian their meaning and stylistic usage in contemporary language are compared. The work is divided into five chapters.
