Family Names in the Surroundings of the Village of Brloh
TANZEROVÁ, Markéta
The subject of this bachelor?s thesis is an onomastic analysis in the municipality of Brloh. The chief intention is to gather and analyse in detail ?cottage-derived? names in the South Bohemian village of Jaronín, which forms part of the above-mentioned municipality. The theoretical part deals with onomastics in general, the emphasis being put on the development of Christian names and surnames. Furthermore, it tries to explain that proper names are closely connected with local life and historical development ? it is proper names in particular that give a clearer picture of local historical events. A valuable source of information is mainly ?cottage-derived? names, which, unlike surnames and Christian names, have never been codified in writing. Their phonetic alterations reflect local dialectal phenomena. The language situation, as well as the dialectal one, is strongly influenced by the fact that up to 1946 people of two nationalities, Czech and German, lived at Jaronín. That?s why dialectal phenomena of both the Czech and German language used in our territory can be watched there. For the comprehension of how both languages blend, ?cottage-derived? names are an inestimable source.
