Falling of elderly population

Title: Falls in the eldery Objectives: The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze and classify knowlage about falls in the eldery during usual daily activities with focus on prevencion and detection of falls by useing wearable and non wearable systems for detecting falls in the eldery. Methods: This diploma thesis is wrote with the metod of literary research through professional literature, books and articles in both Czech and English was used in the work. To meet the objectives that have been provided were selected examples that helped analyze and clarify the issue of falls in eldery. Results: The sources of professional literature have shown that the falls in the eldery are very serious issue of society. At the same time, it is important to be aware of their possible health and economic impacts, as well as how to prevent them. The correct use of fixation shoes has been shown to reduce the risk of fall. Many fall detection devices are able to call for timely help. Last but not least, knowlage of this issue could help to improve and innovate the fall detecion and prevention systems. The falls of seniors at home environment

This bachelor thesis focuses on one of frequently occuring problems affecting seniors which influence the senior´s and their family´s lives very negatively. It is falls of seniors in the home environment, usually leading to a long-term hospitalization of the seniors, often leading to their health-condition deterioration, or, in the worst cases, to the seniors´ death. That is why it is important for seniors and their families to be sufficiently informed about ways to prevent falling, and what measures to adopt to avoid falling. This thesis consists of two parts. The introducing chapter of the theoretical part describes the scientific fields of gerontology and geriatrics, and defines the terms of aging and old age. Further, the ways of geriatric patients examination are described. Falls, their etiology, phenomenology, their results and prevention are characterized in the following chapters of the theoretical part. The research part of the thesis defines four aims. It was trying to ascertain what specific circumstances to falls of seniors in the home environment there are, what consequences there are from the seniors´ and their family members´ point of view, whether seniors having suffered from a fall in the past have taken any preventive measures to avoid more falls, and what opinion is held by their family to fall prevention. 5 seniors having suffered a fall in the home environment, and 5 of their family members took part in the research. When processing the data obtained via interviewing the respondents, 5 categories and 6 sub-categories were created. The results have proven that the fall usually influences the future life of the given senior negatively. All of the questioned respondents had stated certain fear of fall repetition in the interview, some preventive measures were taken by some of the respondents only. Based on this bachelor thesis, a short educative material has been created, which may be further used as an educative leaflet serving to pass on practical information on preventing falls of seniors.
