Social work with mentally ill homeless people
CARBOVÁ, Terezie
There are a lot of people with mental illness among the homeless. Mental illness is one of the many causes of homelessness and homeless people are more likely to have mental health problems compared to the general population. Currently, the system of social work with homeless people and people with mental illness in the Czech Republic is sophisticated. This diploma thesis focuses on social work with clients suffering from these health and social issues. The theoretical part of the thesis defines homeless people, people with mental illness and social work, as perceived by the contemporary academic literature. It deals with the current state of social work with mentally ill homeless people. The aim of the thesis is to determine reference points that are used by the social workers working with mentally ill homeless people. A qualitative research strategy was used to carry out the research part of the diploma thesis, which was conducted by a survey method using the technique of a semi-structured interview. Data analysis was evaluated using elements of grounded theory. The research group consisted of six communication partners who carry out social work in the following areas: shelter, night shelter, day centre and field social work. The research has shown that based on their own experience, social workers create a vision of social work. Obstacles to meeting these visions are massive barriers that are mostly systemic. The principle of indirect correlation applies here if the level of the system is higher, the barrier is less easy to influence, but it has a more devastating impact on the client. Significantly fewer barriers come from people. The social workers can influence these barriers to a certain extent. The disparity between barriers and support in social work related to a working vision is threatening, but social workers mobilize their power of defence and a "pointless" way to the vision in the area of barriers that can be influenced. The results of the thesis can provide feedback to the work of the communication partners. In addition, the thesis can be inspiring for experts as well as the general public as it points to a lack of health and social care for mentally ill homeless people related to big legislative contradictions in protecting the clients' freedom and their best interest.

Houdková, Denisa ; Matoušek, Petr (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis is based on the assumption that the shelters are used by people dependent on addictive substances. Asylum houses provide shelter to those in need to improve their quality of life, but do not provide professional assistance to persons dependent on addictive substances. The objective of my work is to analyze the possibilities to applicate an addictologist in a shelter for the homeless. I also examined the rules for entry and stay in the facility, typical patterns of drug use, and how employees of the shelter works with people with addictions, or how they cooperate with addictology services. To the data acquisition were used two methods of a conversation with the staff of the shelter open and half-structured. Another method was participant observation, study of internal rules and informative emails of the shelter. This is a case study of the one particular shelter. Most users of the shelter shows signs of addiction and addictologist would have applied here. Employees are very skeptical to treat addictions of users in the shelter, but addictologist could be applied in other activities that would focus on the needs of this target group. Such as education, motivation and user administration crisis interventions. The priority of employees in the shelter is the solution of the social situation...

People without shelter and addictive substances
VČELIČKOVÁ, Karolína
This thesis deals with the problematic of homeless people and the role of psychoactive drugs in theirs everyday life in town of Pisek. The aim of thesis is to find out the importance of the psychoactive drugs for these people. What are they capable to do to get the drug and on the other hand what are they doing to limit their usage. Further aim is to find out whether those using the drugs tried of some kind of treatment or restricting theirs addictions. On the problematics of homeless people and psychoactive drugs I focused in the theoretical part of the thesis. I compile the problematics using qualitative research, when I used the methodology of questionnaire. I used the technique of semi-controlled interview. I questioned the clients of Social centre Arkada in Pisek. The clients were selected according to their ability and willingness by Arkada social worker. For evaluation I used Grounded theory. I found out the centre clients were facing certain family issues ever since their childhood. All of them had experience with psychoactive drugs from teen age. Furthermore they were facing the problems in family and with job. All these factors led to situation they found themselves on the streets without a shelter. Due to ongoing cycle of complications their situation were not getting any better, but on the contrary they were using more drugs. They created psychic and physical addiction, which they found very hard to fight. For the questioned clients of the centre the drugs represent something they cannot imagine their life. Although some of them tried the treatment, they were never able to completely eliminate them from their life. The outputs of this bachelor thesis can serve as information material for employees of social centre Arkady Pisek. There is no "cure" for the homeless people addictive to drugs to bring them back to normal life and to find their place in the society. Although I hope, that this thesis can at least a bit help to further cooperation with client, which seeks help in their fight in the centre.
Health Perception of Homeless People.
CARBOVÁ, Terezie
The thesis focuses on homeless people's perception of their health. First, it should be pointed out that this issue has not been comprehensively analysed and described by experts. The theoretical part describes homeless people, their categories and characteristics and the problematic area of health care. Furthermore, the theoretical part also deals with different approaches to the concept of health and its determinants. Finally, it concentrates on the mental process of perception. The research was conducted using a qualitative research method, a survey method and a semi-structured interview. The research group consisted of five respondents (four men and a one woman) who are clients of at least one service for homeless people. The research group was selected by means of random sampling. The questions in the interview centred on a timeline; that is, how people had perceived their health before they became homeless, how they perceive it now and how they expect their health to evolve in the future. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was chosen as a research method. A narrative structure of themes was created and also the results were evaluated using this method. The most frequent themes that emerged during the analysis were the following three: rationality of thinking, emotional sentiment and moral thinking (or more generally, spiritual contemplation). The research has also often shown a struggle for human dignity. This thesis could help to raise awareness not only among social workers, but also among the general public. The results of the thesis can serve as an inspiration for application and development of social work in this field.
