Periphrastic construction expressing aspect in contemporary Spanish
OBERFALCEROVÁ, Lenka
This thesis deals with the Periphrastic Verb Phrase as one of the linguistic means used to express "Actionsart" in Spanish, especially, Phasal and Quantificational Aspects. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, I will try to clarify the terms of "Actionsart" and Verbal Aspect after the previous study of Czech and Spanish specialised linguistic literature. Moreover, I will focus on both the delimitation of the term Periphrastic Verb Phrase and the role of the Auxiliary Verb within this type of verb phrase. In addition, some possible classifications of periphrastic verb phrases are introduced as well as the character of the audiovisual source from which authentic examples of periphrastic use were excerpted. In the practical part, I will classify and analyse concrete periphrastic verb phrases according to their notional nuances of the "Actionsart" (especially the beginning, the progress, the end and the repetitive realization of verbal process). All the parts of the analysis will be illustrated with excerpts from my corpus. Finally, through the comparison of statistical data, I will set out the frequency of use of this type of periphrastic verb phrases in contemporary Spanish.
