The Street Name terminology in the Town of Jindřichův Hradec

The master thesis deals with the scientific field of onomastics, specifically focusing on toponyms. It focuses on urbanonymy in the area of Jindřichův Hradec and the main aim is to contribute to the understanding of street nomenclature in the area. The analysis is guided in two directions, the first one is devoted to the motivation of the origin of the names of selected streets based on historical literature and the second part is complemented by the perspective of the development of streets over time. The analysis is based on a study of literature dealing with onomastic issues.

The aim of this master´s thesis are personal names and geographicals names in the travelogue which was written by Kryštof Harant z Položic a Bezdružic. The travelogue is called Putování aneb cesta z království Českého do města Benátek, odtud po moři do země Svaté, země Jůdské a dále do Egypta a velikého města Kairu. Onomastics material is subjected to linguistic analysis. The signifiant research part deals with personal names and geographicals names, focuses on classification into required groups and on the analysis of onomastics. The part of this thesis is a statistics with percentage expression of acquired results.

The topic of the bachelor thesis is the analysis of personal names and hypokoristics and nicknames created from them. The aim of the thesis is to provide data on anthroponym status in the current school environment. Due to the field of study, the material was obtained by means of questionnaires, which were submitted to pupils of the second grade of the selected elementary school. The research part follows the theoretical part, which deals with onomastics as a linguistic discipline and defines in more detail the issue of anthroponyms, birth names, hypocoristics and nicknames.

Analysis of onomastics material in Jiratice

This diploma thesis extends the bachelor thesis research that analysed whether and what characteristic features appear in ordinary language of native speaker who come from Jiratice. The goal of this thesis is linguistic analysis of official, unofficial personal names, minorplace and local names in Jiratice or in its nearby vicinity. These names are collected from written sources and from interviews with witnesses. The collected material is organized into a dictionary that analyses primarily the motivation of each name. The complex of names is also classified according to various criteria. The aim of the diploma thesis is to contribute partially to the Czech onymic research.

Surnames and Nicknames in Pacov

The thesis has been following the bachelor thesis, which engaged the onomastic analysis in town Pacov, concretely the domain of antroponomastic (last names and nicknames). Records were obtained thanks to database of registry office, next by using of interviews and by research directed to the social site Facebook. The objective is to realize the analyse in more frequently occurring last names and nicknames with consideration of their motivated origin. Analysis and classification of nicknames have been made on the basis of testimonies of citizens of Pacov and nicknameholders with the possibility to next associations. There have been incepted the complex language collection, which have surveyed the antroponomastic status of town Pacov in 2014-2017.

Biblical personal names in Czech Sign Language

(in English): In biblical times, names had their meanings but these days, we (and not only Czechs) do not perceive them anymore. This is one concern. Names in written languages have been translated or transcribed since Septuagint and Vulgata and therefore, their meanings have been beginning to be lost for the readers. They see just sounds in them. What does it mean in the matter of translating the names of biblical people into Czech Sign Language? And what about their meanings? We do not know much. And that is the topic of this thesis, its goal is to discover the origins of biblical people's sign names in Czech Sign Language and to find out their motivation. The thesis is proceeded from language data gathered through video excerption method from Bible bez hranic (Bible without boundaries) and elicitation method done amongst the deaf respondents from two teams (Prague, Brno). Both teams use identical signs due to their cooperation on the translation, which means the resulting sign names for biblical people must be unified, if possible. In Bible bez hranic project, the differences in sign names usage among the Deaf and sign names used in the project happened to be found. French idioms containing proper nouns and their Czech equivalents

The theme of the presented bachelor thesis are French idioms containing proper nouns and their Czech equivalents. The first part of this thesis provides an introduction to the principles and foundations of phraseology and idiomatics. Firstly, the basic terminology is defined and then the main formal and semantic characteristics of phrasemes and idioms are described. The second part analyses selected sample of onomastic idioms from formal, semantic and translatological aspect. This thesis aims at finding Czech equivalents for French idioms and evaluate the level of their equivalence.

Urbanonyms in České Budějovice

This diploma thesis deals with names of quarters and city parts as well as with street names in the city of České Budějovice and their changes in the historical development. Attention is payed to the historical centre of the city as well as to the newer city parts and suburban localities which have been built in the last years. The monitored urbanonyms are selected from the linguistic and factual perspective. Furthermore, the changes of honorific names in various historical periods are observed too. The paper also comprises an alphabetical register of streets. The main focus of the analysis is to enrich onomastics of the city of České Budějovice.
