Updating XML data
Mikuš, Tomáš ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Holubová, Irena (referee)
Updating XML data is very wide area, which must solve a number of difficult problems. From designing language with sufficient expressive power to the XML data repository able to apply the changes. Ways to deal with them are few. From this perspective, is this work very closely dedicated only to the language XQuery. Thus, its extension for updates, for which the candidate recommendation by the W3C were published only recently. Another specialization of this work is to focus only on the XML data stored in the objectrelational database with that repository will enforce the validity of documents to the scheme described in XML Schema. This requirement, combined with the possibility of updating of data in the repository is on the contradictory requirements. In this thesis is designed language based on XQuery language, designed and implemented evaluating of the update queries of the language on the store and a description and implementation of the store in objectrelational database.

Relational and object-relational database schema comparison on concrete aplication
Schuster, Martin ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Svatoš, Oleg (referee)
The main goal of this thesis is to introduce the principles of relational and object-relational databases and demonstrate the advantages of object-relational structural elements. Firstly on theoretical and then on practical level. First part of thesis describes the foundations of databases in general. Then I'm focused specifically on relational databases and their problems related with todays object-oriented programming trends. After that I will mention object databases and principles of object-relational mapping and at the end of theoretical part I will describe structural elements of object-relational model. Practical part of thesis compares relational and object-relational models in context of fictional aplication of ehop. The end sums up the thesis and suggests use of particular model in case of nowadays informational systems.
Comparison of object and object-relational databases
Ptáček, Tomáš ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Pavlíčková, Jarmila (referee)
The main topic of this thesis is the comparison of the object oriented paradigm with an object relational approach to data management systems. This work analyses object paradigms in contrary with relational principles and questions if they are beneficial for current data management systems. Performance comparison of these two approaches is being made on highly complex data between database systems PostgreSQL and db4o. The essentiality of using one of these approaches is examined in a case study from Bosch.
