Nutrition value of "Protein" labeled food

This bachelor thesis addresses the issue of increased demand for foods with a high protein content on their packaging. The theoretical part describes the role of proteins in the body, their biological value, and it also names suitable sources of protein for the human body, including the protein content of common foods. There is a particular chapter dedicated to sportspeople and protein supplements. The requirements of the Czech legislation on food with a statement concerning proteins or the name protein itself are given at the end of the theoretical part. The bachelor's thesis aimed to find out the exact offer of foods with the protein label or with a claim related to proteins, evaluate these foods, and determine the awareness of such labelled foods in the general population. The practical part first deals with foods labelled with protein or claims about proteins freely available in the most standard supermarkets. The survey was conducted by visiting the six closest supermarkets while listing all foods with some protein claims. A total of 363 pieces were recorded. Furthermore, the most visited supermarket was evaluated with the help of registered sales and foods with the protein label found in this particular supermarket were analysed. Nutrition and health claims on food packaging

Food producers must provide food packaging with a mandatory nutrition label in conformity with the contemporary food legislation of the Europian Union. There have been several changes of the legislation in last 10 years. Moreover new rules for providing the health and nutrition claims on food packaging have been issued. Main objectives were to unite legislation valid in the European Union and also to protect the rights of customers. This diploma thesis focuses on nutrition and health claims on food packaging. The aim of the thesis is to summarize changes and current state of legislation on nutrition and health claims on food packaging and also to explore patients' awareness of nutrition and health claims. To analyse the theme of the research the quantitative method was used in a form of a questionnaire given to the patients, who are visiting a dietician. There were 83 patients, who participated in research, 80 questionnaires were analysed (3 questionnaires were not filled in properly, therefore they were not included). The Food Safety and Quality Control System in Czech RepublicThe thesis describes the way how is the food safety control and quality protection provided in Czech republic. There is the law definition of the all forms of food during the food production chain from the primary production up to sale to the consumer in the work. The thesis focuses on the requirements laid down in the Czech and European food law on the food producers and sellers. The thesis also deals with the food contamination and quality aspects - nutrition value and quality branding. There is also chapter about the quality management system certification and chapter about the current cases related with the safe food area in the Czech republic in 2012 (Methanol, Polish technical salt and horse lasagne).

Consumer protection in the food supplements area

The topic of this diploma thesis is the Consumer protection in the food supplements area. The work has been devided into three parts. The first part is devoted to the overview about categorization of the products with the impact on health. This part of this work also includes the elementary terms, which are: food, food supplements, medicinal products, cosmetics products and medical devices. The second chapter is devoted to the matter of food supplements as such. The third chapter deals with the terms health and nutrition claims. The last chapter includes the survey between the consumers of the food suplements and also the survey between the pharmacies.

Food from the perspective of nutrition and health claims

The work has been collected basic information on nutrition labeling and health claims in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of their importance for consumers. The main aim of this thesis was to determine the attitude of consumers to the information provided. How are food consumers familiar with these concepts, how they are perceived and whether they are clear and understandable information on the packaging. Subsequently, it was analyzed how selected companies applied nutrition and health claims on the packaging of their products and if they are beneficial for them.
