Religious and church life in the Central Bohemia countryside between 1848 and 1948: case of Mirošovice region

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of religious life in the Mirošovice microregion. Its aim is to present the religiosity of the local inhabitants in individual villages of the micro-region and its changes during the period 1848-1948. In order to provide the necessary context, some events and developmental trends that do not fall directly into this time period are also presented, but are nevertheless essential for understanding regional religiosity. The time frame between these years is chosen due to the two revolutionary years of significance for the Czech lands. The revolutionary year 1948 has been chosen because of the harsh anti-religious policy imposed by the communists, which had a profound effect on the church and religious life of the region. The author also discusses the most important churches that were of great importance to the people of the region, not only in their religious life. These churches are primarily the Roman Catholic Church, which had its deanery in Mnichovice and the parish in Hrusice. Also important was the Czechoslovak Hussite Church having its separate congregation in Mnichovice. Furthermore, the work focuses on church buildings and parishes in the region. Religious Life in Czechoslovak Prisons in the Period of the Communist Regime

This thesis deals with Czechoslovak penal system between the years 1948 - 1989 from the view of religion. It investigates the developement of spiritual service in prison, follows its decline after February 1948 and describes in which way the prisoners tried to find a solution to the prohibiton to practice religion in prisons. Further it focuses on religious persecution in communist Czechoslovakia, presents reasons for imprisonment of the members of individual confessions and shows how their faith reflected in everyday life in prison. The author makes a reference to the concentration of priests in closed departements, explains its reason and tries to depict everyday life of these separated communities. He describes in details how the convicted practiced the acts of their religion and he deals with the differences of individual confessions. The work speculates over the sense of imprisonment of hundreds of priests, friars and laymen from some of the Churches in communist Czechoslovakia. It thinks about the power of faith and conviction exposed to cruel physical treatment and mental violence. It also deals with the question of colaboration, relations between members of different confession and between the convicted and warders. This master thesis deals with life of roman-catholic parish of Hosin focused to the 2nd period of 19th century till the beginning of the 1st world war period. 1st two chapters are describing the religious events in Bohemia and in Ceskobudejovicka diocese during the mentioned period. Furthermore this master thesis summarizes events and relationships in Hosin?s parish given by political changes in our country including the significant event of old church demolition and construction of a new one. T is tract includes picture attachments with a outlining character. This master thesis is based on historical sources presenting the tracts of famous historian ass well as information sources less known.
