The story of Josef Hasil in the miniseries The King of Šumava The Phantom of the Dark Land and its media response

The bachelor thesis deals with the anti-myth and myth of Josef Hasil, a smuggler from the Šumava region and the most famous bearer of the nickname "King of Šumava". The thesis reflects his image before 1989, which was fundamentally influenced by the famous propaganda film Smugglers of Death (Král Šumavy) from 1959. After the Velvet Revolution, the purification of Hasil's reputation was attempted when his life was being reinterpreted based on facts. His dramatic fate has also been featured in post communist popular culture titles. The most successful representative could be classified as a biographical novel about Josef Hasil called Návrat Krále Šumavy from 2012. The novel inspired narration of three-part miniseries King of Šumava: Phantom of the Dark Region (Král Šumavy: Fantom temného kraje) (2022) produced by a commercial TV station and distributed on its VOD platform Voyo. Both projects present their effort to straighten out the fates of Hasil's life, yet there is admitted fabrication in the story. The image of drug crime in the series Zrádci

This diploma thesis deals with the series Zrádci, which was presented by Czech Television by the turn of February and March 2020 and has not yet been processed in-depth in the academic environment. The general aim of the paper is to create a comprehensive picture of the series Zrádci, which is based on the responses from the Czech media, social networks, and further from creators, critics, or even the actors themselves. The main objective of the author is to undertake a qualitative analysis of the series. The partial aim is to find an answer to whether the series "Zrádci" is fundamentally different from other criminal serials, and to what degree this serial is more realistic than other audiovisual works with a similar theme.

Story building in serial format focusing on the Chernobyl miniseries

This diploma theses titled Story building in serial format focusing on the Chernobyl miniseries analyses the serial Chernobyl coproduced by American HBO and British Sky aired in 2019. Chernobyl miniseries gained public recognition and still ranks as one of the highest-rated TV shows in history according to movie databases in the Czech Republic and abroad. It also received wide media coverage from different newspapers and movie servers. The miniseries has five episodes it describes primarily the human aspect of a horrifying disaster in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986. The main aim of this theses is content and dramaturgy analysis, description, and development of individual characters and themes. This diploma thesis also focuses on the story building of a serial in terms of theoretical concepts and aspects typical for making serials and series. Moreover, the thesis mentions particular Czech and international reviews of Chernobyl.
