Administration of medication in hospital wards
Fuková, Tereza ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Pavlíková, Pavla (referee)
This thesis concerns the administration of medication in hospital wards. The theoretical section describes the process followed by the nurses, the most common types of medication, and drug classification. The thesis then assesses the level of pharmacological and legal knowledge among the nursing staff, and the incidence of clinical mistakes. The data was obtained by means of a 19- question questionnaire, in a survey of 100 nurses in medical, surgical, geriatric and psychiatric wards. Key words: Nurse, medicine, medicament, administration of medication, hospital ward
Therapeutic approaches to Ebola virus infections
Tomanová, Tereza ; Drda Morávková, Alena (advisor) ; Matyska Lišková, Petra (referee)
Ebola virus is a very dangerous virus because of its high mortality rate and unavailability of an approved vaccine or medicament. There was more than 31 000 infected people since the first epidemic in 1976 and almost 13 000 of them died (cdc.gov). Ebola virus usually occures in the west Africa, its occure on the other continents was rare in the past and it was always just one case. There is one exception though, strain Reston of Ebola virus. Strain Reston was spread from Philippines to the USA while deporting macaques. Strain Reston is able to infect people, but there is no case of death after being infected with this strain (who.int). This occurence in the USA was a warning sign of how easily could Ebola virus travel to other continents. If it was one of the deadly strains, the results would be fatal. Ebola virus is a threat and it is necessary to develop effective vaccine and drug. This bachelor's thesis is about the Ebola virus, its genome, life cycle and mainly about the options of therapy of the ebola virus disease. It is focused on presently tested vaccines and drugs against the Ebola virus.

Vliv institucí na neefektivitu trhu: případ generických léčiv
Štěpánek, Martin ; Smrčka, Luboš (advisor) ; Strouhal, Jiří (referee)
There is a strong evidence suggesting that the law of one price is violated in the retail markets for generic medicaments although the products are essentially homogeneous; the original brand medicaments seem to be sold at a significant price premium over their generic equivalents and also the generics are not sold at the same price. I utilize the standard models of oligopoly and augment them by additional specifications to account for market imperfections and specifications of pharmaceutical industry to explain the dispersed price equilibrium as a natural result of imperfect competition on the market. I argue that under the assumptions of information asymmetry, uncertainty, heterogeneity of patients, and inability to promote products, firms are able to price their medicaments above others. Further, I support my theoretical results with empirical data of medicines sold in the Czech Republic. The observations closely match my conclusions and findings in the prior literature.
Preparing and administering medicaments by hand or by an instrument
ŠEBENDOVÁ, Jana
I found out in this thesis the way nurses handle medicaments. What preparing and administering medicaments is like, and whether they prefer their own hands or an instrument in their work. This subject started to attract me for the reasons of an untraditional view of nurses{\crq} everyday work because they get in contact with preparing and administering medicaments several times a day. It was also interesting to compare the theoretical part with the practical aspects of the matter. In the theoretical part I outlined the entire knowledge nurses are to have not to endanger themselves or the patients in the course of handling medicaments. Nurses have to know the terminology related to medicaments, further what forms of medicaments there are, what effects may be expected, they are also supposed to know the manner of the application of medicaments, the manner of preparing and administering medicaments, what mistakes nurses may meet with when working with medicaments and what roles nurses have when administering medicaments. I am focusing especially on administering medicaments orally. The objectives of my thesis was to survey in what way nurses conduct hand hygiene before preparing and administering medicaments, whether they use aids intended for handling medicaments, in what way medicaments are prepared and administered to patients. To obtain results, I used the qualitative research. In total, 2 techniques were used. The first technique was hidden observation based on an observation list prepared beforehand, with activities connected with the subject in question. This observation was completed with a second technique {--} a structured conversation with open questions. Both the observation and the structured conversation were conducted in the intern section of the České Budějovice Hospital, a.s. The results may be given to the management of the hospital in which the research was conducted. They may also serve as a basis for a new standardisation of the subject in question.
