Bakalářská práce Pupils, Language, Communication Attitudes of secondary school pupils towards Standard and Common Czech language Lenka Josífková Abstract This thesis focuses on attitudes of secondary school pupils towards Standard and Common Czech language. The thesis is based on the sociolinguistic theory of attitudes to language in English literature and on the theory of attitudes in Czech linguistics. Key terms for this thesis are theory of language culture, its development and criticism. Those terms lead to the definitiv of the relationship between Standard and Common Czech. Part of the theoretical foundation of this thesis is description of the methods and techniques which are then used in the empirical research. The second part describes the research, which was divided into two parts: the realization of the questionnaire research and follow-up interviews with the pupils. The results of the research show that attitudes towards Standard and Common Czech language are different. Praha 2015 Vedoucí práce: prof. PhDr. Karel Šebesta, CSc.

Drkošová, Sylvie ; Chromý, Jan (advisor) ; Vaňková, Irena (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the issue of linguistic inequality, or linguistic discrimination, in the Czech republic. Particularly, the influence of the speech of two regions, Ostrava and Prague, on attitudes towards its speakers in Ostrava and in Prague is studied. The matched- guise technique is used for the purposes of this research. This thesis consists of three parts - in the first part previous research concerning linguistic inequality and linguistic discrimination is described and analyzed. The second part is analyzing stratification of czech language in czech society. The third part presents my own research which is verifying my presumptions about language inequality in czech society.
