Tombstones in the church of St. Jakub in Jihlava
VENCELIDES, Jan
The provided bachelor thesis examines the identification and delineation of the life stories of individuals commemorated at the end of the 18th century by gravestones located within the flooring of the parish church of St. James the Greater in Jihlava. The initial chapter provides a concise overview of the historical context of the royal upper town of Jihlava until the first half of the 18th century. This overview encompasses not only the political history of the town but also delves into aspects of administration and religious development. Subsequently, the thesis explores the history of the parish church of St. James the Greater in Jihlava, addressing both its external and internal features, furnishings, and significant events witnessed by St. James Church throughout its existence. The central segment of the thesis, drawing from the manuscript of Jan Jindřich Marzy, supplementary sources, and specialized literature, endeavors to reconstruct the life trajectories of 22 prominent Jihlava burgher families and other individuals associated with the sepulchral monuments within the interior of St. James Church.
Renaissance mural paintings and sgraffiti on the facades in town Prachatice
Žabková, Gabriela ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (advisor) ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (referee)
Práce zpracovává renesanční fasádní nástěnné malby a sgrafita v Prachaticích.

Chantry chapels by burghers in Kutná Hora in pre-Hussite period Vojtěch Vaněk This study is based on the social-historical understanding of the role of chantries and of liturgical memory in medieval society, as discussed especially by Otto G. Oexle and Michael Borgolte. Chantries as permanent pious gifts connected the world of the living with the world of the dead, kept the presence of the dead among the living and, simultaneously, contributed to the salvation of their souls through mutual solidarity between the living and the dead. This study also evaluates the insights of the new cultural history, which understands the endowments as symbolic capital in a given society, capital which enabled display of social status and legitimized power through ostentatious demonstration of devotion. Under the House of Luxembourg, Kutná Hora was one of the most populous towns in Bohemia and Moravia as well as one of the biggest centers of mining and processing of silver ore in Europe. 1280's saw the origins of mining there, the first decade of the 14th century saw the city's founding. Kutná Hora was the residence of the central mint in the Czech kingdom and of the royal offices related to the mint and mining. It also attracted burgher elite, who participated in the mining entrepreneurship and traded with precious metals....

Chmátal, Jonáš ; Žemlička, Josef (advisor) ; Musílek, Martin (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on Rockzaner family, one significant patrician family of Prague's Old Town. The goal of this thesis is to bring wide biographical description of this family. Similiar biography already exists but just as a part of monumental work of Vaclav Vladivoj Tomek from 70's of 19th century. That is why I am persuaded that such biography should be rewriten to better suit modern historical science. Another goal is to prove that topic of prague's patrician families is not exhausted and there is still a plenty of free space for a research to be done. Next to biographical description this thesis also contains one chapter devoted to Rockzaner's rural estates and its's problematic. As for my opinion this biography should stand as a basis for future research of Rockzaner family and their's economical and social activities. Keywords: Old Town of Prague, patrician, Okor castle, knight, Rockzaner, medieval, medieval city, citizen, location, 14th century, colonization, money loans, rural estates, city council

The baroque heraldic gallery of coats of arms. Heraldic representation of nobility, clergy and burghers, its interpretation and application possibilities
Oulík, Jan ; Ebelová, Ivana (advisor) ; Županič, Jan (referee)
This article focuses on Baroque heraldry, specifically the phenomenon of galleries of coats of arms in the Bohemian lands during the post-White Mountain period. Using auxiliary historical sciences methods, three sets of coats of arms from 1660-1690 are analysed: 1. Heraldic coats of arms and insignia of benefactors on sixteen paintings of the Saint Wenceslas series in the Basilica of St. Wenceslaus in the pilgrimage area of Stará Boleslav near Prague; 2. A set of three painted coats of arms in stucco cartouches on the triumphal arch of the Chapel of the Virgin Mary and St. Charles Borromeo in the former Vlašský Hospital in Prague's Lesser Town; 3. Heraldic coats of arms and insignia on ten wooden plinths of statues of Bohemian patrons in the archdeanery church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Tachov. The article yields a series of named sets of coats of arms, and the identification of most persons to whom they belonged to, including a comparison with coats of arms presented in other sources (seals, designs on deeds for coats of arms, old prints). With the placement into a wider historical context and an analysis of the donor structure, the article also points to the composition of the elite at that time, stemming from a range of higher and lower nobility, clergy and burghers, and to the need to make...
