Erotica in a puppet animated film
Žák, Vojtěch ; DĚCKÁ, Eliška (advisor) ; Vaněček, Matěj (referee)
Eroticism and pornography in animated puppet film is a niche genre. Nevertheless, it deserves attention for its unique means of expression. The subject matter of this thesis is a reflection on the relationship between corporeality and the puppet in film. It also includes selected auteur independent films and their analysis, in which sexual behavior is the prevalent topic or which contain explicit erotic scenes. The puppet functions as a representation of human body; specifically, within the context of this thesis, of the body in erotic situations. The body of the puppet becomes a representation of our own body. With the emergence of new technologies, we can become a representation of the puppet, which in turn becomes a puppeteer, an animator. The principle of identification with the main protagonist is essential for interpretation of the role and function of the puppet in film. One of the key instruments of interpretation of the role of the puppet in film and understanding its function in film. The chosen theme is accompanied by definitions of key terms and a brief overview of legislation concerning pornographic animated film.
Robinson Crusoe - comparison of animated movie and live action movie
Nováková, Hana ; KUBÍČEK, Jiří (advisor) ; DUTKA, Edgar (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is comparison between screenwriting for animated film and live action film and a search for differences in both types of writing. Specifically, this thesis compares two films based on the book The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner, by Daniel Defoe. Using this book I am able to describe the possibilities of both literature and film, and to demonstrate which parts of the book are preferred for film adaptation and why. I also briefly mention the evolution of the story of Robinson Crusoe, and show how animation and live action films deal with these changes. In the final part of my thesis I compare the 1954 live action film Robinson Crusoe, directed byLuis Bunuel with the 1981 Czech puppet film The adventure of Robinson Crusoe of York, mariner, directed by Stanislav Látal. Comparing these two films enabled me to understand and describe specific rules and procedures in scriptwriting for an animated film.

Máj, Martin ; DĚCKÁ, Eliška (advisor) ; KUBÍČEK, Jiří (referee)
This thesis presents an analysis of the film "Malý Pán" ("The Little Man") directed by Radek Beran. The analysis mostly focuses on the technology used - theatrical puppet in a film. It examines the literary model "Velká cesta Malého pána" ("The Little Man's Great Journey") by Jiří Stach and Lenka Uhlířová, its adaptation into a film screenplay, the screenplay itself, acting of puppets, visible controlling mechanism and finally the visual processing of puppets, animation and overall mise en scene. Alongside with the analysis, several general rules for the use of theatrical puppet in films are defined and illustrated on examples from the "Malý Pán" movie.
Puppet Animator
Mrázová, Martina ; KLOS, Jan (advisor) ; Žabka, Michal (referee)
This master thesis deals with the problematic position of the Czech puppet animator. Based on interviews with two puppet animators, representing the current puppet animation and the last century Golden era, I am trying to figure out how the puppet animator worked in the last century and how he works today. For the current generation I draw from the experience of puppet animator Jan Štencl. For the past generation I draw from the experience of Mr. Jan Klos. I'm trying to clarify what puppet animator has had to know and if these kind of skills varies according to the period in which the animator works/worked. Furthermore, this theoretical work deals with the problems that animators are facing today and how to puppet animators respond to the expansion of 3D technology. In conclusion, I outline the various solutions to the current situation.
Theatre Puppets in Film
Volánková, Tereza ; BEČKA, Marek (advisor) ; KUBÍČEK, Jiří (referee)
This thesis mainly deals with the matters of transferring the experience with puppet theatre or theatre in general into the motion picture environment. This work is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on comparing these two media (theatre and film) and tries to determine the terminology comprehensible by both, the theatre and the film community. It discusses some of the possible variations of film animation, always in relation to certain one, which is central to this work, which is real-time performed anti-illusive puppetry. The second part describes the process of creating two specific events in the film directed by Tereza Volánková; authors own work, where the puppets are lead in this way. The third part is a mere outline of a possible principle reversal, where the author uses some film practices in the theatre environment.

Live-action Film Puppet
Máj, Martin ; KUBÍČEK, Jiří (advisor) ; KLOS, Jan (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the live-action film puppet that has evolved from the theatrical puppet. In contract to the animated puppet, the purpose of the non-animated puppet is to create live-action motion. As of now there were no attempts to formalize the theory of this cinematography field. The first step towards this goal is to divide the puppets into the following technological categories: marionette, hand puppet, animatronic puppet and costume and digital puppet. Several types do not clearly fit any of the above criteria and are thus described in the chapter entitled ?atypical puppets?. Puppet types are demonstrated on their example movies. The thesis further deals with the correct placement of the puppet to the scope of the movie which is closely related to the previously established puppet categories.
