How Tax, Labor Market and Product Markets Reforms Influence Foreign Direct Investment
Tydlačková, Stanislava ; Vacek, Pavel (advisor) ; Serdarevič, Goran (referee)
This work analyses industry level Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in order to find out if their determinants are the same for all industries or if they differ and how. The second important question is if various qualitative variables as labour market or product market liberalization or taxation determines flows to individual industries. I analyse seven industries by System GMM model for period from 1994 till 2009. The results suggests that inflows to each industry are driven by distinct set of determinants. While there are nearly non-significant determinants for agriculture among explanatory variables I used, there is many of them significant for services. Concerning qualitative variables, labour market liberalization influence FDI inflows to manufacturing and mining, product market liberalization influence inflows to transportation and electricity, gas and water industry. The level of taxation seem to be significant determinant of FDI inflows to manufacturing. California Electricity Crisis 2001
Safai, Mina ; Raška, Francis (advisor) ; Kozák, Kryštof (referee)
This paper scrutinizes the Californian Electricity Crisis 2001 from the perspective of energy security. The work shows that deregulation of the electricity sector in California challenged the main energy security principle, namely an undisrupted energy supply at affordable prices. The principle is vital for economic development and national prosperity. Disruptions or blackouts along with unprecedented high electricity prices during the Californian crisis damaged not only the economy, but increased the budget deficit and led private generators of energy supply to bankruptcy. This damaged the policy of energy security management. The approach I take in addressing the causes of the Californian Electricity Crisis involves a case study; its examination from the perspective of energy security, clarification of the risks for energy security if the state authorities restructure electricity sector; and to extract lessons for future application, which should be learnt from the crisis. In order to be successful using the mentioned approach, I highlight the conditions in the western US electricity supply industry, which enabled the California crisis to happen. In addition, I describe the regulatory structure of the California electricity sector as well as the way the deregulation plan was implemented by...
Management services in the power engineering
BÁRTOVÁ, Zuzana
The work deals with the electricity sector. It falls into the network industries together with the gas industry and telecommunications. Electricity sector is part of the power engineering and involves the generation, transmission, distribution and use of electrical energy. The work is territorially defined only in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part contains the characteristics of services, customers, markets, marketing mix of services, using of information technology in services and power engineering. The practical part deals with performing the analysis. The analysis is divided into three main parts. The first part consists of an analysis of the historical development of electricity price since 2006, the development of services in the energy sector and the current range of services for the suppliers and the final customers of electricity. The second part consists of an analysis of the external environment, marketing mix of services in the power engineering and communication processes between a customer and a supplier. The third part is devoted to the topic of energy audits, license of the energy demands of buildings (hereinafter referred to as license) and renewable resources of energy. In the conclusion is questionnaire survey, which is deeply devoted to the issue of license, both in terms of awareness of the energy demands of buildings, and in terms of its desirability.
National mass transportation productivity
Novák, Ivan ; Vokoun, Marek (advisor) ; Štípek, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis is trying to answer some questions regarding national mass transportation in Czech Republic. Its goal is to provide a market analysis and show to what extend is productivity dependent on a form of ownership, which it will subsequently compare between individual means of transportation. The theoretical part focuses on ongoing liberalization of the railway market and tries to find similarities in the already open market of road transportation. Analytical part is using a regression analysis and in connection with theoretical context shows what effects do individual means of transportation have on productivity. Those regression models show decreasing returns of labor. Next the models also show that private ownership is effective and point out that railway transportation doesn't have to be ineffective which some could assume.
