Čin magazine in years 1929-1939
Bokotejová, Helena ; Sekera, Martin (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The master's thesis Čin magazine in 1929 - 1939 deals with the cultural-political magazine Čin, which was issued in Prague in between the world wars. This left-wing and democratically orientated weekly, later a fortnightly, magazine focused on current cultural and public issues within former Czechoslovakia. The thesis aims to provide a thorough profile of what was an important and distinctive periodical in its time. Firstly, the thesis deals with outlining the notion of the magazine within the mass media, further on it describes the characteristics of the media landscape in the period of the first and second republic, where the printed media and their related area of problems are dealt with in detail. A subchapter on the cultural and political standing of Czechoslovakia in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century is also included, the focus is also on the position of the Čin magazine in the array of magazines of that time. The ensuing parts of the thesis already deal with the periodical itself, firstly in the period from 1929 to 1936, when the magazine was under the leadership of Marie Majerová, and secondly in the period of leadership of Bohumil Přikryl, that is from 1937 to 1939. These separate chapters inform about the publisher of the Čin magazine, the eponymous press and publishing cooperative of...

Czech party system and its development after 1989: liberal parties in the Czech party system
Rozsypal, Michael ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Šurda Malcová, Karolína (referee)
This work focuses on development of the Czech party system after the country's transition to democracy after 1989. The research principally deals with liberal parties, their development and position in the Czech party system. Liberal parties in the Czech Republic have not been very popular in long time horizon. The main goal of the work is to analyze formation, development and eventual disintegration of liberal parties and to answer the question why liberal parties have found it difficult to establish themselves in the middle of political spectrum. The results of parliamentary elections regularly show that there is a possibility to be elected by circa 7-15% of votes - mainly from the middle-class; despite that fact, no liberal party has managed to gain a long-term support from their voters. The work describes the origin and evolution of liberalism in the world and in the Czech lands. It shows its inclusion in the left-right political spectrum and the difference between political and economic liberalism. The analysis is based on the election results [mainly to the Chamber of Deputies] from 1989 to 2010. The third chapter is devoted to the liberal parties in the past and present in the Czech Republic and in the conclusion, the work attempts to provide answers to the research questions asked in the...
Unemployment in Terms of Choice of Political Parties
Hromádko, Martin ; Vostrovská, Zdenka (advisor) ; Durdisová, Jaroslava (referee)
The thesis deals with the relationship between unemployment and the electoral results of the political parties in the Czech Republic. For this purpose data on election results for individual political parties and available economic and demographic data from the electoral districts of the Czech Republic from 1996 -- 2010 are analyzed. Data are analyzed by using a linear regression model, which is estimated using ordinary least squares method. The results confirm the apparent relationship between electoral results and the unemployment rate in the districts, which significantly increases the electoral support of the left-wing parties and hurts right-wing. The thesis also found some support for the theory of economic voting and there is evidence that an increase in unemployment in the short term of one year before the election reduces support for incumbent parties. This dependence, however, is clearly demonstrated only in the case of left-wing government and not as obvious in the case of right-wing government.
