Indirect Rule and postcolonial development in former British African colonies

The thesis deals with an indirect rule in colonial Africa, namely with this type of management of the indigenous population in British African colonies. The thesis focuses on finding connections between this form of colonial management and post-colonial development of selected British colonies. The main goal is to determine what effect had the indirect rule on postcolonial development in these countries. For this purpose, the thesis uses regression analysis and study of scholarly literature. The thesis concludes that the indirect rule has negative effect on post-colonial development and outlines other factors that could either strengthen or weaken this effect.

Particular emphasis is put on the crucial moments of their relationship, which are character of the colonial administration, process of decolonization, civil war in the former colonies and current bilateral cooperation. The conclusion and evaluation of Belgian foreign policy is based on analysis of historical and political mutual relations.

This bachelor thesis describes political development in South Africa during the twentieth century and is fucused on relations with Great Britain. It describes relations between former British Empire and its former colony -- South Africa -- after gaining its independence. The main goal is to find out whether British influence on South Africa during the twentieth century (and also in comparison of situation till year 1948, during the apartheid regime and after the end of the regime) was or wasn't significant.

Democracy in former colonies of the British Empire

This final thesis examines the influence of the British Empire on the spread of democracy over the world. The British Empire is not considered to be just the exploiter but mainly as an Empire, which enforced the free trade, freedom and building the democratic institutions in the world. Thesis compares the British Empire with other European colonial powers focusing on advantages of British government and on impact of this government on former colonies. In spite of the fact that democracy was not accepted in all former British colonies, the British Empire made a great contribution to the support and expansion of the democracy and freedom in the world.

The effect of colonialism on the Commonwealth of Nation´s economy

The objective of this thesis is to find out, whether historical colonial relationships have some impacts on today's world economy. I concentrated myself on British Empire and consequently rising British Commonwealth of Nations. First of all, historical contexts connected with colonialism are discussed, than specifics of British colonialism are characterised. Also the decolonisation is mentioned as the end of this historical period. Later on, the thesis is dealing with Commonwealth itself. In the last chapter the contemporary relationships within the Commonwealth are analysed.

The bachelor thesis "Differentiation - increase in differences between advanced and developing countries" focuses on the increasing differences between the two main segments of world economy, namely between advanced economies on the one hand and developing on the other hand. This differentiation will be justified, evidenced and accompanied by concrete facts, symptoms and tendencies. The goal of this thesis is to analyse the principal aspects of this theme, i.e. to define participants, symptoms, causes and consequences of the given phenomenon and eventual future development. Furthermore to compare relations between advanced and developing countries in mid-twentieth century and today whereas emphasis is especially placed on the changing position of developing countries within last twenty years, and to describe the role of dynamic developing countries in the present world economy and their present and future relation with advanced countries. The structure of thesis will be divided into seven main chapters and them respective subchapters which comprise key segments of given problems.
