National Museum Library in the First Half of 20th Century by Eyes of Josef Volf

Josef Volf's diaries are for now unprocessed und unused source for research of life scientific and cultural elites in period of The First Czechoslowak Republic, for discovery the way of working of the National Museum Library and last but not least for familiarization with personality of her director. Author writes about ordinary events, everyday problems, relations with his colleagues and withal he attentively files his publishing activity. This thesis is occupied with last two parts of diary, which charts life of Josef Volf close before his death. From rows we get the knowledge about important personalities of public life and also about no longer known regional librarians, archivists or researchers. The goal is to detect as much of these names and events mentioned here as possible. The tendency is then the reconstruction of working of one cultural institution in the contemporary Czechoslowakia.

The main goal of this thesis titled Separated libraries - Library of Karel Teige is based on Teige's important life events to pursue his creative activity and to connect it with his personal library. This topic will form the first part of the thesis - split into period of Devetsil and Surrealist group. In the second part, I deal with the issue of Teige's separated library and its further destiny after 1951. I focus primarily on Teige's estate in the Museum of Czech Literature and on its composition. An important item of this second part are letters between the Ministry of National Security - Headquarters of State Security and the National Security Secretary, which describe an event between the intervention of the State Security into the apartment of Karel Teige and depositing Teige's estate to the National Museum Library. This thesis should help to clarify how Teige's library was separated and where it was deposited.

Diaries of Josef Volf as a Probe into the Czechoslovak Librarianship

Resource basis for this work will be thee editorially still unprocessed diary parts of librarian, historian and teacher Josef Volf (1878 - 1937) - from the years 1925, 1933 and 1935. Thematically, the work will build on previous bachelor thesis Library of the National Museum in the first half of the 20th century through the eyes of Josef Volf. Now, however, will dela with personalities Josef Volf from the perspective of his teaching at Charles University, and especially at the State Library School. In this connection, will focus on the establishment and functioning of the educational institutions and the general process for creating a library legislation at the beginning of the first Czechoslovak Republic. Volfův diary should help reveal the specific difficulties of implementation of the Law on public libraries, discussions among experts in an informal level and the impact on the field of librarianship and library development and organization after its introduction. In addition, work will reflect the daily work issues, events, insights and finally Joseph Volf relationships with coworkers and acquaintances that are reflected in the records. Also tries comparison of parts to trace changes in all these aspects that come with a long time lag brings. It will also take account of the rich material...
