This paper is focused on the problematics in testing of cables and wire harnesses. It follows up on a diploma thesis by Ing. Jakub Valenta. This paper consists of analysis of said diploma thesis and points out its shortcomings. Specifications of created protype of cable tester are mentioned in this paper, including its accuracy and suggestions for more accurate measurement of cable harnesses. Design of a signle-purpose machine for a control and measuring station for cabling

The task of this thesis is a design and a construction of a semi-automatic single-purpose machine. This machine is designed for testing seven types of wiring harnesses, which are going to be tested, whether they contain all needed parts. The machine also measures some parts of the harnesses. It is necessary to use more types of sensors in the design and the construction of the single-purpose machine. All controlling and measuring processes are automatic. An operator of the machine just inserts the wiring harness into a fixture, activates the program, then removes controled harness and puts it into the right box. The task of this thesis is solved in a cooperation with Mechatronic Design & Solutions s.r.o. company.

This semestral paper deals with the issues of testing and requirements examinations for cables and cable harnesses. These terms are defined in the work and the difference in their meaning is described. The work also describes the characteristic features of cables and cable harnesses, explains their importance and focuses in more detail on the variable properties that may change over time or that are dependent on manufacturing errors. The principles and procedures of tests of these properties are covered in the work and are the essence of the subsequent practical part. In this part, the work deals with the design of the measuring circuit prototype for testing of the insulation resistance of cables and their desired continuity in bundles. This design is then physically implemented, the processes of designing and implementing are described in detail and finally its functionality is tested and presented to the reader.
The introduction of lean manufacturing into an engineering company

The diploma thesis is focused on implementation of lean production through using Lean Six Sigma method into an engineering company, producing cable harnesses for the automotive industry, mainly for trucks. The aim of the project is to increase production capacity by 25 %, reduce wastage rate to 3 % and design a new layout of production areas. The budget of this project is 3 million CZK. The production was slimmed down using the 5S methodology. To meet the aim of the project, three new machines had to be bought. The steps have resulted in a saving of 64 CZK per piece, which means a return on investment in about 8 months.

The diploma thesis aims to follow up on the bachelor's thesis "Conduction of electric current and signals in agricultural tractors" and expand the reader's insight into the possibility of cable harness design using software tools and 3D software to visualize it on the overall machine model. At the beginning of the diploma thesis, the reader is acquainted with new trends in the management of electricity and communications in agricultural machinery, including trends in the management of cable harnesses. The next part deals with software tools for the creation and visualization of cable harnesses focused on agricultural technology and their use in practice. On this basis, cable harnesses for agricultural tractors from the production of Zetor Tractors a.s. are designed and implemented. Furthermore, testing of conductors in the protective material of bundles (protective hoses) for vibration resistance will be performed due to their internal filling with conductors. On this basis, cable harnesses will then be designed according to new trends and test results. These cable harnesses will then be part of the new production of Zetor Tractors a.s.

Design of robotic cell for cable assembly

This thesis is created in cooperation with ABB. The aim of this work is to design and implement technical modifications in an already existing robotic workplace where a production of cable assemblies is situated. These modifications are important so that the cable assemblies made by a robot would be confirmed by a production control. The work is divided into five parts. The first one is devoted to the analysis of a current state of a cable assembly production. In the second part the causes of a reject production are discussed. The third section describes some possible ways of corrections of problems connected with the workplace. The fourth part describes an implementation of selected technical modifications. In the last section used technical modifications are evaluated.
