Title: Rock-hewn and monolithic architecture of northern Ethiopia Abstract This bachelor thesis focuses on enumeration and closer characteristic of rock-hewn and monolitic architecture in northern Ethiopia, specifically the Tigray and Amhara regions. In addition to christian monuments, thesis summarizes even pre-christian heritage of the regions. Special emphasis is placed on the complex of Lalibela churches. To create a closer idea of the context, thesis also pursueses on the historical and political background of place and time, introduction to the history of christianity in Ethiopia and its influences and a brief summary of primary sourses (Kebra Nagast).
