Public spaces of the city of Brno - theoretical work

Master´s thesis adresses the issue of public spaces of inner city of Brno. These spaces have good prerequisities to become attractive places for everyday use or for spending a good free time. These prerequsities include for example compact city structure, well defined public spaces, walking city distances, presence of public and commercial facilities and distinctive genius loci. But public spaces in these localities often do not fulfill their own potential and stay as average free space inbetween buildings. Thesis suggests a detailed system for categorisation of squares and streets in the inner city of Brno and examines the reasons for potential non-fulfillment on these typologies, it tries to find out the problems of public spaces and how they can be solved.
Gentrification of the inner city of Český Krumlov

The bachelor´s thesis explores, identifies and analyses eventual manifestations of gentrification in the Inner city of Český Krumlov. Part of the thesis is an outline of theoretical approaches in the area of gentrification. The analytical part is derived from different, but overlapping approaches: gentrification as a class colonization, gentrification as a capital investment, gentrification and social disparities. As a prerequisite for confirming the course of gentrification, the creation of a rent gap in the examined area is analyzed. Another identifier of the course of the process in the area is the displacement of the original inhabitants.
Changes of physical and functional environments in the neighbourhood of Nusle in Prague

In the last few years certain parts of post-socialist inner cities undergo dynamic transformation as a result of regeneration processes, while other are stagnating. This thesis focuses on changes of physical and functional environment in Nusle neighbourhood in Prague and analyses dynamics of the changes during the last decade. Quantitative data from various sources were used. Firstly, district's housing and residential characteristics are observed at the statistical units' level. Subsequently, the study analyses the change of housing stock quality and structural and spatial transformation of the retail market through field observation. Upgrading physical environment and changes of inner retail market structure were identified. Both environments in Nusle are nowadays spatially diversified. Gentrification and revitalization of inner city buildings in the city of České Budějovice with emphasis on the Krumlovské předměstí

This bachelor's thesis deals with the process of revitalization and gentrification of the housing development in residential districts of the inner city of České Budějovice with an emphasis on Krumlovske predmesti. Even if the housing development of buildings in each district was slightly neglected, these days there is the gentrification in progress, thanks to it, old buildings are revitalizing (regenerating, reconstructing, rehabilitating). It was done fifty interviews with inhabitants living in these districts. On the basis of these interviews, there were then identified "gentrifiers". This means, people, who have middle-higher incomes, mainly young couples without children, who moved here from neigbourhood and from further rural neigbourhood. Analytic chapters evaluate identified facts about revitalisation of each building and then transfered into tables and displayed on maps. Each finding is then justified. Bachelor's thesis is part of the wider project, which is focused on next parts of the inner city of České Budějovice. It allowed the next comparison within each areas of the inner city.
Gentrification and revitalisation of built-up area of the inner city of Ceske Budejovice with emphasis on Prazske predmesti

Bachelor thesis deals with the processes of gentrification and revitalisation of environment in different parts of the disrict Prazske predmesti, which lies in the inner part of city of Ceske Budejovice. Includes an analysis of the relevant literature and theory, urban characteristics of study parts, working methods and results. Gentrification was examined by asking respondents, revitalisation of buldings based on field descriptions of the individual houses. It was found a considerable representation gentrifiers in population in the Prazske predmesti, but only some were unambiguous gentrifiers. Revitalisation of buldings in the Prazske predmesti is signifiant progress, it has built the kondominium are numerus and little part houses have sign sof neglect. Study parts of the Prazske predmesti were compared with other parts of the inner city study in the bachelor´s thesis. Bachelor thesis contains a tables with the evaluation of the respondents, houses and study areas and mapping of this evaluation.
Contrasts of various social worlds in Prague Holešovice

Holešovice district is part of Prague inner city, which currently represents one of the most physically and socially transforming locations of the metropolis. However, changes of the socio spatial structure often lead to increasing social polarization and enhancement of social inequalities. This thesis deals with contrasts between different social worlds in Holešovice. Firstly, long-term development of socio spatial structure is observed through analysis of quantitative statistical data. Secondly, residential locations of different social groups are identified on the level of statistical units in the area of lower Holešovice. Finally, social contrasts, daily rhythm and interpersonal interactions are examined through field survey.
Urban revitalization of Prague's Smíchov

This Bachelor thesis deals with the theme of revitalisation of the urban environment. The paper describes the urban renewal process and focuses on the related terms of brownfields and greenfields. The first aim of this work is to analyze the condition of two specific decaying complexes in Prague's Smíchov area: the bus station Praha Smíchov, and the Zlíchov distillery. The station of Smíchov encompasses a huge plot of land, but it isn't fully used. Smíchov's station controls extensive land which is not only partly used. In contrast, the Zlichov distillery ceased production fourteen years ago and has still not been put to use. These problem areas are located in the inner city, and therefore offer great potential for the development of the city. The second objective is to describe the perception of two disturbed areas by residents whose place of residence is located nearby. Gentrification and revitalization of inner city buildings in the city of České Budějovice with emphasis on the Pražské předměstí - west

Revitalization of the inner city buildings in the city of České Budějovice and current gentrification of these buildings are the subject of investigation in this bachelor thesis. After an analysis of literature and theory followes a description of solved areas of inner city and chapter with data collection and methodology. In this thesis there are analyzed interviews with the residents on the topic of gentrification and there are accomplished mapping of individual houses of rate their revitalization. The data are sorted and processed into several types of typologies of gentrification and buildings revitalization. Study area is three residential areas of west part of Prague suburb that is part of inner city of České Budějovice. In the first area with housing estate there was register revitalization of panel houses and superiority of residents with neutral state in terms of gentrification. The second area represented mostly newly built condominiums with gentrifiers and neutral residents. In the third area with older buildings there is gradually buildings revitalization and construction of new condominiums, there is still a mixed composition of the residents in terms of socio-economic status.

EVERYDAY LIFE OF MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN IN SUBURBS AND IN THE INNER CITY Abstract The aim of this thesis is to investigate the everyday life of mothers with children in the suburban zone and in the inner city, capture differences in the time-space mobility of mothers, depending on their place of residence and find out how these activities and habits differ in different types of residential enviroments. This monitoring and evaluation was based on the method of semi-structured interviews. For the research there were chosen localities Jesenice as a representative of new housing in the suburban area and Nova Harfa as a representative of new residential areas in the inner city.
