The bachelor thesis also focuses on communication techniques used in communication with a deafblind person, nursing care for patients with this handicap, and an introduction to organizations that operate in the Czech Republic. The main aim of this bachelor thesis was to map how healthcare staff communicate with a patient suffering from a combined visual and hearing impairment and to find out how the combined visual and hearing impairment affects the client's communication with the external environment. It was to define and identify all the sub-variables that the qualitative investigation was conducted. The semi-structured interview method was selected for the purpose of this paper, in which 6 general nurses working in a health care facility participated. Purposive sampling was used to determine the research population. The inclusion in the research was conditional on practice with clients with combined visual and hearing impairment. The second research population was those clients with a presenting visual and hearing impairment who had experience of being in a healthcare facility. All interviews were recorded on a mobile phone and then transcribed in MS Word into electronic form. Data analysis involved open and axial coding, categorization of codes, and sorting into categories and subcategories based on predetermined objectives. The results show that the concept of communicating with a person with combined hearing and visual impairment is not a commonly discussed topic in our society. Nurses are rarely familiar with this issue. The undesirable factors that affect nurses are mainly the low awareness of this issue and the low incidence of such clients in the health care facility. The nurse probands report an increased level of distress in communicating with such a client. Client respondents are more likely to report pleasant experience with staff at the health facility.
