The Musical programming of Czech alternative radio stations
Pyatkina, Maria ; Maršík, Josef (advisor) ; Lovaš, Karol (referee)
This master's thesis studies and compares the methods that Czech alternative radio stations, Radio 1 and Radio Wave, use while creating the music component of their broadcast. Their alternative format defines their specific approach towards music, which is appealing for this type of research. The theoretical part of this thesis provides insight into the issues of the radio station's musical programming, describes the alternative radio format and the studied radio stations, including the musical component. Music directors and DJ's go through decision- making processes in a similar way that news editors write news articles. That is why the second part of this thesis applies the gatekeeping research framework to the musical programming. Based on the interviews with the radio station's music directors and DJ's, this thesis discovers a wide range of aspects that affect alternative radio station's musical broadcasts. The gatekeeping research levels help to compare these influences within the two stations.

Sound procedures inspired by Nuri Bilge Ceylan films
Chrudina, Matěj ; SKALL, Vladimír (advisor) ; KUDLÁČ, Jakub (referee)
In my final thesis I am going to focus on the sound and music dramaturgy of the Nuri Bilge Ceylans movies. I choose to write about his work because he can think about the movie as a whole and always pays attention to the sound design. Ceylan often experiments with diegetic music and motives he uses are sometimes very unusual compared with conventional cinematography. Another reason why his work inspired me for my final thesis is the fact, that my approach to film sound is in many ways similar to what he is doing. Therefore I can demonstrate my view on this topic using the specific expamples of his work. I am focusing on all the movies he had done between 1997 and 2014. I am going to pick the most exciting sound moments from each movie. I am also going to highlight some of the elements that constantly repeats through his filmography, thus defining his style. As a result of my work I want to point out the examples proving that the film soundtrack should not only be viewed as support for visual but as an equal part of the narrative conveying the information which can be heard but not viewed.

Kršáková, Leticia ; SKALL, Vladimír (advisor) ; KOPECKÝ, Pavel (referee)
Abstract This thesis deals with an audio-visual interpretation of a musical work. It is an extensive issue because audio-visualisation of music accumulates in itself a range of art disciplines and it works with their resources. The general idea of a development line is captured in the general part of the thesis which is dedicated to music and dance and film as its transformations. The second part of the thesis presents the basic forms of such adaptations and some film music genres with theirs specific features and there are also described some typical and unusual authors' procedures and the functionality of their approach is evaluated from a viewer's-listener's side. The theoretical support for the conclusions presented in the thesis are drawn from available resources and domestic and foreign scientific literature. The conclusions of a general assessment of possibilities and difficulties of audio-visual interpretation are based primarily on the analysis and comparison of musical and visual components in the selected audio-visual works.
