Distribution and abundance of wintering and breeding population of Mute Swan (\kur{Cygnus olor}) in the South Bohemia region
HNÍDKOVÁ, Lucie
This work evaluates quantity of the mute swan (Cygnus olor) in wintering grounds and nesting sites in southern Bohemia. The mute swan became the target species of the JOK 2020 Bird of the Year campaign. The aim of mapping the mute swan population in 2020 was to identify as much of its South Bohemian nesting and wintering population as possible. The census followed similar projects from previous years and it took place in a total of four terms. The most important of them was the third term, which involved the nesting and leading of the young swans. A total of 1358 locations were inspected. In the first term, i.e., during the count in wintering grounds, 387 swans were recorded in 184 locations. During nesting, i.e., in the second and third terms, a total of 1230 locations were inspected, of which 368 (29.92 %) were occupied. There were 162 nesting pairs in 159 locations. In the third term separately, a total of 1003 locations were inspected, 1563 individuals at 221 locations were recorded, 96 pairs with a total of 434 young were present. During the August after-nesting count, 666 locations were inspected, and 1284 swans were recorded at 122 locations. Nesting swans most often occurred in habitats with vegetation area over 25 %.
The Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo, Linnaeus, 1758) and the Development of the Number of its Nesting Sites in the Czech Lands
Hašpl, Filip ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
The presented work deals with the development of the population of the Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) in the Czech Republic in the period 1940 - 1979. The data are obtained from the archive of the Ringing Station of the National Museum in Prague and supplemented from available literature. The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is our largest owl, which currently occurs in Europe, Asia and North Africa. However, especially in European countries, it has been abundantly hunted in recent history and its population is still recovering to this day. The work presents a brief history of man's relationship with this owl and describes its difficult path to legal protection. It also briefly presents the known nesting sites and the history of ringing of this owl before the years thoroughly examined in this work. The work also documents the increase in the number of eagle owls in the territory of our state during the 20th century (the lowest number of recorded nests in one year in the observed years is 0 and the highest 21 nests), including re-occupation of the area where the owl was at the turn of the 19th and 20th century completely exterminated. Furthermore, these data on the occurrence are processed into maps and tables, on which we can clearly see the locations of the owl's nesting grounds, which were...
Studie obsahuje informace o rozšíření špačka obecného a o migraci evropských populací.
Kingfisher (Alcedo athis), an Example of Fulfiling EU Legislation - Nature 2000 in IBA Třeboňsko
HLÁSEK, Oldřich
The population of Common Kingfisher in northen part of Třeboňsko Region was monitored according to the fulfilling of EU directions {--} Natura2000. Between the years 2004 and 2006 105 km of watercourses, water reservoires, sand quarries in the map square 6854 were regularly monitored. Recent population condition was monitored. Technical adjustement of recent, new, and extinct nest walls followed. Thanks to these modifications, the number of successful and perspective breeding places increased. The next step was to check the progress and success of nesting. During other inspections I observed the success of nesting, depending on environmintal conditions, and{--}if needed- I determined the reason why the nest place was destroyed. In the conclusion I suggest practical measures {--} how to adjust nesting places {--} which night result in stabilization of the population.
