NEW ON THE „OLD“ – Brno, Bratislavská - Stará Corner
Habancová, Anežka ; Šárka, Jan (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Project is based on the fact that the parcel is currently vacant lot corner. In this case, it was logical to fill the resulting vacant lot and so complete the existing street parter. Another factor that influenced the design, the absence square around the site. The result is a complex of five separate residential buildings on the same ground raised ground floor, which creates a residential area on the roof, thereby reducing the final height of residential buildings. Breakdown mass was slightly influenced by the shape of battlements - The space between buildings give the possibility vistas, broken mass into smaller units and allow the penetration of sunlight across the facade of the existing buildings. Connecting the base with a residential building on the first floor is supported by material facades modulation, creating a distinctive line orbiting the border area and emphasizing the integrity of the complex.

Poláčková, Tereza ; Biegel, Richard (advisor) ; Macek, Petr (referee)
The focus of this thesis is the urban development of Žižkov from its foundation in the second half of the nineteenth century to present time. Emphasis will be put on the problem of the planned and partially executed redevelopment in the second half of the twentieth century. The early history of Žižkov will be described in the introduction from the earliest historical evidence to the end of the nineteenth century. This chapter explains the ideas behind the construction and design of this neighbourhood. The following chapters will analyse the development of perception and approach to Žižkov including the early utopian urban planning from the beginning of the twentieth century, the plans from the interwar era, and the plans designed between 1960s and 1980s, which led to the partial destruction of Žižkov. The functional, social, esthetic and historical consequences of the loss of the heritage will be analysed. Other circumstances, such as the reasons behind the executed redevelopment, the production of construction materials and the reception by professional and non- professional audience will be considered. The individual plans will be described and analysed from the early ideas of Radiant city to the later executed plans of the tower blocks around Olšanské náměstí and náměstí Komenského.
