Investigation of cognitive abelities in children in substitute educational care facilities The bachelor's thesis is devoted to the topic of cognitive abilities in children in school facilities for the performance of institutional and protective education. The theoretical part deals with the issue of institutional education and the area of cognitive functions in relation to the selected group of respondents. The practical part consists of the results of the verbal battery of the standardized Test of Cognitive Abilities - TKS (Thorndike & Hagen, 1998). The verbal battery of this test focuses and classifies vocabulary, the ability to construct sentences, emphasizes children's ability to think in words and phrases, and use words in a given context. The aim of the research investigation is to determine, find and compare differences in the mentioned area of cognitive abilities in selected groups of respondents aged 12 - 18 years. Part of the thesis is a discussion of the established facts, the formulation of more generally valid conclusions and recommendations for the practice of special education.
