Analysis of the balance of payments of the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the balance of payments of the Czech Republic in the years 1993-2007. The first part offers a theoretical view of the balance of payments, the principles of its assembling, its structure and the most important balances of balance of payments. The second practical chapter focuses on the development of the individual accounts of the balance of payments in connection with the important events influencing the Czech economy. The third part treats of the external economic stability. It deals with the foreign debt, international investment position and balances of balance of payments.
External Economic Stability of the Slovak Republic

The objective of the thesis is to analyze the external economic stability of the Slovak republic. First part of the thesis explains fundamental theories of the balance of payments, its structure and equalizing mechanisms. The analysis of the external economic stability is based on the development of the balances of payments between the years 2000 and 2008. The analysis of the external debt and the international investment position are also involved to complete the image of the Slovak external economic stability.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse external economic stability of the Czech Republic. The external economic stability is defined and basic theory related to especially intertemporal approach to external balances is reviewed. Special consideration is given to the transition character of the economy. The descriptive as well as econometric analysis (VAR and cointegration models) find that the Czech Republic is not dangerously imbalanced. A potential threat is found to be reresented by government budget deficits due to the problem of twin deficits.
