Contrastive analysis of selected sentence structures with the verbs ser / estar
ČAPKOVÁ, Tereza
This thesis is focused on the Spanish verbs ser and estar, particularly on their difficulties in the translation by machine translators. The theoretical part describes the characteristic features of these verbs as well as their differences. The practical part then investigates whether the machine translation mechanisms can distinguish the meaning of these verbs. In the second section of the practical part, we examine this issue from the didactic perspective. We investigate how these verbs are approached in textbooks and how they are explained to students. Finally, there are introduced activities that were created and designed for different language levels according to the CEFR and the recommendations of the Institute of Cervantes.
The Use of ser and estar in Spanish and Catalan (A Corpus-Based Study)
Kaňková, Daniela ; Kratochvílová, Dana (advisor) ; Čermák, Petr (referee)
The present work deals with the difference between the use of the verbs ser and estar in Spanish and Catalan. The subject of our research is normative usage of the verbs in both the languages. By means of language corpora Intercorp and Araneum Hispanicum Maius we observe whether the usage of the verbs in Catalan corresponds with the norm and to what extent the usage is influenced by Spanish.
