Epistemic modality: the Spanish probablemente, posiblemente, acaso, tal vez and their Czech equivalents

Epistemic modality expresses the speaker's degree of confidence about the content of the proposition. One of its realisations in Spanish is lexically through adverbials such as probablemente. If these adverbials are followed by a verb, it may be in indicative or subjunctive form. According to the norm, the choice of the verb mood depends on the degree of speaker's confidence. In this study the norm is compared with examples from the corpus - the usage. Factors that influence the choice of the verb mood are thoroughly described. Czech equivalents of the analyzed formulations are also analyzed.
