Inquiry-based education focused on traffic noise pollution

The bachelor thesis focuses on teaching the impacts of traffic in grammar schools. Specifically, it addresses one of the leading negative impacts, namely noise pollution, which is a worsening problem as the volume of traffic continues to grow. The aim of the thesis is to create and implement a lesson on this topic using an inquiry-based teaching approach. Pupils will learn how to measure approximate noise levels, understand its impacts, and devise a plan to improve the situation. The lesson will be pilot tested by pupils from the Secondary School of Surveying and the Geographical Grammar School in Prague. The theoretical part introduces the issue of noise pollution in more detail, describes inquiry-based teaching and its integration into lessons. The practical part provides teaching materials and a thorough methodology, that serves as a guide for teachers who would like to apply the lesson in their classes. Subsequently, the course of the lesson at the Geographical Grammar School is described, along with reflections from both the teacher's and students' perspectives. Based on assessment of the students' knowledge before and after the lesson, they appeared to have a better understanding of the issue. Use of biomarkers for assessing environmental pollution by platinum group metals

This diploma thesis in the theoretical part analyses the characteristic feature of individual platinum group elements, their toxicity, anthropogenic sources and the presence of platinum group elements in the environment of the Czech Republic. In addition, there are specified types of bioindicators focusing mainly on lichens, mosses and needles. There are described individual bioindication techniques and pre-treatment of samples for platinum metals determination in bioindicators. The subject of the experimental part is to verify the sorption efficiency and ability of platinum and palladium using the SPE method and to determine the actual platinum metal contamination in selected localities in the city of Brno. There was also the additionally subject to verify the sorption potential of selected bioindicators and determination of the environmental pollution by platinum metals using the bag technique. In the experimental part, the bioindicators of moss Pleurozium schreberi, lichen Xanthoria parietina, lichen Flavoparmelia caperata and needles Pinus nigra were used.

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the relationship between pollutants and economic development. The validity of the environmental Kuznets curve for various harmful substances for the whole world, as well as for some individual states and groups of states (Russia, Czech Republic, OECD countries, the least developed countries) is verified by means of regression analysis. Correlation analysis is used to assess the dependence of CO2 emissions per capita on the degree of industrialization, representation of services, the share of agriculture, forestry and fishing in the economy
