Development of concept of ecological footprint
Vrbová, Anna ; Albrechtová, Jana (advisor) ; Lhotáková, Zuzana (referee)
The ecological footprint is an indicator that measures the size of the bioproductive land needed to provide resources and disposal of waste from existing technologies. It's an important sign of the sustainability of the population on Earth. As we are currently facing an impending lack of many natural resources, this is an important issue. The biomass we use is created by plants, which play a critical role not only in functioning of the ecosystems, but in the concept of the ecological footprint.Individual types of vegetation differ in their relative contribution the overall ecosystems production and consequently to the calculation of the ecological footprint of various lands. For this reason this work is concerned not only with the concept of the ecological footprint, but also with the services that plants provide. The objective of this work is to compile the current information on the evolution of the concept of the ecological footprint, what preceded its creation, and to focus on the important role of plants in the functioning of ecosystems, allowing for the calculation of the ecological footprint. The evolution of the concept of the ecological footprint is covered in Chapter 1.Chapter 2 deals with ecosystem services, their rating, and the critical role that plants play in them. The calculation of the ecological...
Social metabolism in Czech and Czechoslovak territory in historical perspective
Kušková, Petra ; Jeleček, Leoš (advisor) ; Kupková, Lucie (referee) ; Spišiak, Peter (referee)
This dissertation is based on the conceptual framework of social metabolism and it applies methods of Material and Energy Flow Analysis and Ecological Footprint. It studies interactions between human activities and natural environment in Czech/Czechoslovak territory from the historical perspective (after the division of Czechoslovakia for Czechia and Slovakia together). The term of social metabolism is a metaphor inspired by biology. Society or human economy similarly to a living organism which extracts materials from the earth, processes biophysical materials to maintain itself and emits its wastes back. So the economic system functions in an analogy to a living organism and those processes are called "social" or "industrial" metabolism. This dissertation comprises seven individual empirical studies: (I) An introduction to a research topic covered in following articles. It is based on the work of leading world environmental historian and it interprets selected Czech realities within the context of the world environmental history. (II) The historical series of MEFA indicators together with ecological footprint. (III) An article which applies the ecological footprint method on the ecological farm in comparison to conventional agriculture in the context of more foreign studies on this topic. (IV) An...

Izolační materiály používané v konstrukcích současných dřevostaveb
Presová, Natálie
The thesis focuses on the comparison of selected properties of thermal insulation materials most commonly used in present-day wooden structures. First, the thesis deals with the description of individual insulation materials, followed by the description of structural systems of present-day wooden structures, from frame structures to solid wood structures. Special attention is paid to outer wall systems of wooden structures and to the location of insulation: systems with interjacent thermal insulation, systems with outer insulation, and combined systems. Finally, thermal insulation materials are assessed on selected model walls regarding the heat transmission, heat accumulation, and ecological footprint. The conclusion includes the summarised results of the analysis.

Ethic status of personal consumption
BUDÍČKOVÁ, Lenka
The aim of my Bachelor thesis is a list of certificates that will help people to select and promote manufacturers and traders who behave sensitively towards the environment, animals and people. The theoretical section of my work contains various sources of information about reducing personal consumption, about organic food, fair trade and ethical personal consumption in terms of reducing the negative impact of excessive consumption on the environment. In the practical part of my work I have sorted collected certificates into groups for better consumer understanding and created learning material for students who are specialised in Education for health and other people who are interested in this field. I assessed the extent and quality of the services offered by two information centres. My data were obtained by an analysis method and a synthetic method, and also by a directed interview. Both research questions were confirmed.
