The Approach of Sweden towards the Two-State Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Mamicová, Markéta ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (advisor) ; Havlová, Radka (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on an approach of the Kingdom of Sweden towards the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Sweden recognized Palestine in 2014, thus it became the first Western European country to do so. In addition, Swedish foreign policy has been actively engaged in Middle Eastern affairs since the 2nd half of the 20th century. The overall purpose of this thesis is to analyze and critically evaluate the approach of Sweden to the Middle East conflict. At the same time, the thesis answers two research questions: What is the role and involvement of the Kingdom of Sweden in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? Does the Swedish recognition of Palestine have an impact on an implementation of the two-state solution?. The text is divided into 2 chapters. The first one focuses on selected solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with an emphasis on the one-state and two-state solution. The second part evaluates the historical development of both Sweden-Israel and Sweden-Palestine bilateral relations, the consequences of Swedish recognition of Palestine and the extent of Swedish development aid in the region.
