My work focuses on the technique of pattern paint rollers and their historical context. Above all, the work presents an opportunity for me to engage with a phenomenon that was very popular in its time and to explore its potential beyond traditional perceptions. Through a series of tests, I experimented with creating new designs and explored the possibilities of this technology, which included, for example, tests of the materiality and size of the roller matrix or the transfer of the decor from its typical interior setting to an exterior environment.

The symbolism of the tree in the profane architecture around 1500

This master's thesis, entitled Symbol of the Tree in Profane Architecture around 1500, is based on the bachelor's thesis by Tereza Fialová. The bachelor thesis dealt with the so-called tree chamber in Bechně Castle and focused on unique naturalistic decorations. This thesis follows on from the previous research and takes an in-depth look at the phenomenon of astwerk and attempts to understand the preference for dissimilarity that it evokes. The thesis explains the theme of tree symbolism and the appearance of plant forms in profane architecture. The considerable of the text focuses on finding connections between the natural forms and classical architectural treatises. The these sis concluded with the list of monuments of Central European architecture around 1500 that used a naturalistically rendered tree with branches in various forms.

Biography and Works of Printer and Wood-Cutter Michael Peterle (†1588)

Thesis about life and work of a printer and a woodcutter Michael Peterle is focused mainly on his assumed woodcutting activity (he was active between years 1562-1588). It is based on following assumption: although Michael Peterle did not sign his woodcuts, he illustrated portion of his prints. His printing office produced multitude of topical compositions and some interesting illustrated books. Photodocumentation and description of woodcutting illustrations and decoration (according to Soupis tisků Michaela Peterla staršího a jeho nástupců by Pravoslav Kneidl and more recent sources) was created during writing of this thesis. Attention was also focused on context of usage of illustrations. Afterwards Illustrations and decoration of Peterle's competition in the Czech Republic and Germany were examined. Conducted research showed, that Michael Peterle was not woodcutter, but only a colorist and a printer. This thesis provides another view on printing production in the second half of the 16th century. This thesis deals with the development of ornamental decorative elements of furniture from romanesque style to the present in the context of social development. It offers a comprehensive set of information about the ornament, decorative techniques and furniture of different historical periods. Information about individual historical styles is in chronological order in this thesis, which makes it possible to compare different types of furniture. Text is continually accompanied by pictures for better understanding of the subject.

Painted folk decor on ceramics

The main aim of my master thesis is to describe the development of painted folk decor on ceramics since the arrival of Anabaptism in the Czech Republic. Selected Moravia workshops are used to track the decor development. Another goal of this thesis is to find out whether workshops that produce ceramics and subsequently paint it in the traditional way exit even today. Next part of my thesis is devoted to selected Czech workshops that produce painted ceramics. A presentation consisting of photos is included as well as a literature research.
