Comparison of Databases Systems for the Registers Digitalization
Rešovský, Martin ; Rozman, Jaroslav (referee) ; Kočí, Radek (advisor)
This paper presents comparative analysis of relational and object-based database systems over firmly specified data set gathered by registers digitalization of wedding and death records. Data were processed by chosen representants of theirs categories Db4o and PostgreSQL. Data model was created and described for both databases. Evaluation was made on the base of comparison of theoretical foundations, implementation and results of performance tests of the databases on test dataset equivalent to original sample. By carried out research, we found out, that relational model has stronger theoretical foundations, much better support and administration, and is more efficient. On the other hand, object-based approach models database much more naturally and preced construction complications. Main result is, that relational database model appears to be more efficient and preferable, and therefore, with gained knowledge, we can state, that it has better preconditions for effective processing of death and wedding historic records.
Object Database Spatial Extension
Polách, Ondřej ; Křivka, Zbyněk (referee) ; Rychlý, Marek (advisor)
Still increasing requirements are made on database systems, because users need to work with still more complex data. Because of the historical development of database systems, post-relational database systems are mainly used today. As follows from their name, post-relational database systems are built on relational database systems and expand them so that they are able to work with complex data. The vast majority of today's spatial database systems is based on post-relational databases. However, this work is trying to find a connection between object and spatial databases. The obtained knowledge is reflected in the implementation of the object database spatial extension.

Comparison of object and object-relational databases
Ptáček, Tomáš ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Pavlíčková, Jarmila (referee)
The main topic of this thesis is the comparison of the object oriented paradigm with an object relational approach to data management systems. This work analyses object paradigms in contrary with relational principles and questions if they are beneficial for current data management systems. Performance comparison of these two approaches is being made on highly complex data between database systems PostgreSQL and db4o. The essentiality of using one of these approaches is examined in a case study from Bosch.
