The Quality of Life Analysis with Regard to Circadian and Diurnal Rhythm of Pubescents and Adolescents in Children's Homes in the Region of Pardubice.
ŠTORKOVÁ, Tereza
This thesis deals with the quality of life of pubescent and adolescent in children's homes in the Pardubice region with regard to circadian and diurnal rhythms. In the theoretical part we define in detail the concept of quality of life, pubescence, and adolescence, biorhythms with a division between circadian and diurnal rhythms, sleep and institutional care. More attention is paid to sleep, its importance, quality and above all sleep cycles that are directly associated with the subsequent research area. In the research section, four research assumptions are made. Subsequently, we process data from eight orphanages acquired in the period from December 2011 to June 2012 in the Pardubice region. The questionnaire survey has 125 respondents of which 59 are teenagers in the age range 10-14 years and 66 adolescents between the age 15 and 18. For this purpose we used a shortened version of the standardized questionnaire for circadian typology CIT - Harada, Tailor (2010). The data was evaluated using basic statistical methods. It was found that on weekdays pubescents averagely go to bed at 09:15 pm and get up at 6:45 am. On weekdays, the average sleeping time is 9.5 hours. On the weekend pubescents averagely gone to sleep at 10:30 pm and get up at 8.30 am. The average weekend sleep is 10 hours. Adolescents go to sleep on average at 10:00 pm and get up at 6:45 am on weekdays. The average sleep on weekdays is 8 ? hours. On the weekend adolescents go to sleep on average at 11:15 pm and get up at 9:15 am. Which means that the weekend sleep is an average of 10 hours. Three assumptions were met, and that, the average sleep time for pubescents on weekdays is longer than the average duration of sleep in adolescents. Adolescents have a bigger problem getting up on weekdays before puberty. Pubescents evaluate their sleep rhythm from a diurnal perspective as sufficient. One assumption was refuted and that is, adolescents sleep on average less during the weekend than their pubescent counterparts. The research was useful as it brings together the issue of the quality of life of adolescents in educational institutions and can serve both for further research and as an indicator of the quality of life.
The implementation of program Pět P in orphanages in the district of Budweis
PROKOPOVÁ, Eliška
The thesis consists of two parts; the theoretical and the practical. In the theoretical part, I defined the concept of volunteering and volunteer, basic psychological needs of a child, resilience and positive youth development, mentoring. The largest part is devoted to the Pět P Program concept, where I characterized this program, focused on the history, objectives, principles and benefits and not least, the organizational structure. Then I focused on institutional care, children's homes generally and in the last chapter, I describe children's homes in the area of Czech Budweiser. The aim of this work was to determine the possibility of implementing the Pět P Program to children´s homes in the area of České Budějovice. There were two sub-questions dealt with, namely: 1) Are the employees of the DDs in the area informed about the Pět P Program program? 2) Do the children home´s client have interest in participation in the Pět P Program? In the practical part; a qualitative research strategy, questioning method, technique semi-controlled interview with open questions were chosen. The research was conducted during the months of March and April of 2013 the interviews were held in the offices of the children home´s and in public areas. The research is divided into two parts. The first part of the research is focused on interviews with five employees of the children home´s. In the second part of the research I focus on the 10 clients of children home´s. Due to the different type children's homes in the České Budějovice area and due the composition of their clients, the research was further divided into individual children home´s. In the children's home with a school, based Šindlovy Dvory, I organized an interview with two employees and five children. In the children's home in Boršov nad Vltavou I interviewed three employees and five children. A pilot study had been conducted before I visited the in the work mentioned children´s houses in the Ceske Budejovice area. The research questions showed that awareness of the Pět P Program is high, all the interviewed employees knew the Pět P Program and regarded it as beneficial. The research has shown that clients orphanages are interested in participating in the ?Pět P? Program. The research also shows that at the moment, there are no suitable conditions for the implementation of the Pět P Program to childern´s houses in the České Budějovice area. For the implementation several preconditions are needed; e.g. further cooperation, clarification of the conditions and the willingness of staff and management of children's homes to work with the program coordinator of the Pět P Program. This work will be provided to both the Pět P Program, as well as the children homes in the České Budějovice area. The theoretical part, where I describe the Pět P Program, could also be beneficial for the children´s houses. The useful contacts regarding the Five P program are in the annex 5. I'd be happy if my work has contributed to the general awareness about volunteering and about the Pět P Program and led to its expansion. The expected benefit to practice is an extension the Pět P Program to childern´s houses in the České Budějovice area.
The Position of Social Workers to the Closure of the Infant Homes and Children's Homes
FEDROVÁ, Ilona
At present media often deal with the topic of children growing up in institutions. The society's effort is that children grow up in functional families. Also, based on the UNICEF?s criticism a reform has been created. The Czech Republic has been making an effort for a long time already to decrease the number of children not growing up in natural family environment. A few measures had been proposed and some of them implemented but they have been ineffective in achieving their desired outcomes. The transformation of the alternative upbringing system should be made on a complex basis. However, concerns and disagreements arise over the proposed solution. Advantages and disadvantages are published in various coverages, discussions, as well as in professional literature. The thesis title: The attitude of social and welfare workers towards closing baby and children's homes. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part deals with the topics of today's family, institutional upbringing, alternative family-based care, and particular steps in the effort to reduce the number of children growing up in institutions. The practical part aims at mapping the attitudes of social workers at baby and children's homes concerning the closing these institutions. A partial objective was to investigate whether the age and practical experience influence the attitudes of social workers of baby and children's homes. Another partial objective was to compare attitudes of social workers of baby and children's homes among different regions of the Czech Republic. I set out two hypotheses. Hypothesis 1: "Social workers have negative attitudes towards closing baby and children's homes." Hypothesis 2: "Social workers' opinions of closing baby and children?s homes do not show any differences among regions of the Czech Republic." Empiric data were collected using a quantitative research, interviewing, and questionnaire technique. The research sample was composed of social workers of selected childcare institutions. The number of questionnaires sent to healthcare institutions (baby homes, baby homes at children's homes, children's homes for 1 - 3 aged and child centres) was 34. Other respondents from children's homes were addressed; in total 148 in the Czech Republic. Thus the research sample was composed of 182 respondents. Every institution was contacted twice as to increase the returnability. The population was represented by the same size as the selected sample, that means it is an exhaustive subpopulation. In total 80 questionnaires returned, i.e. the selected sample returnability (filled questionnaires) reached 44%. Obtained results were statistically processed using scaled classification of data in contexts with obtained nominal, ordinal, and cardinal variables. To analyse categorical data, the chi-square test of independence was used. The hypothesis 1 was statistically confirmed. The hypothesis 2 was not possible to adequately evaluate statistically due to the high number of categories (CR regions) into which the data were divided. Results were placed into nominal statistic tables. The descriptive statistics show that the negative attitudes of social workers prevail. Results of the thesis can be used to analyse opinions of social workers concerning the transformation of the system of care of at risk children. There are many studies relating to the underway transformation of the system of care for at risk children that should be elaborated before the reform is launched. In working out the thesis, I identified many topics that might originate writing further theses. They are e.g. opinions of social workers from the competent authority for social and legal protection of children, attitudes of children in institutional care, creation of an optimal model for at risk children, etc.
Services provided to users of the Children's Home in Kašperské Hory.
ŠTĚCHOVÁ, Marie
The children?s homes are a part of the school facilities for the institutional care. The institutions are responsible for care and education of abandoned children, if their own biological family is unable or unwilling to take care of them. Children are secured materially relatively well. But a problematic situation could arise at a time when young people leave the institutional care. The objective of researching in this bachelor?s thesis is to discover and learn more about the subjective attitudes of young users of The Children?s Home in Kašperské Hory, which cover the issue of leaving the institutional care and readiness to enter into their own independent life. The thesis is divided into two parts. First the theoretical part and the follow up research one. The theoretical part is composed of several chapters and related sub-chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the foster care. There I describe its basic forms, such as adoption, foster care and temporary foster care, guardianship and custody of child to the care of another person, other than a parent is. The second chapter deals with alternative institutional care and its most common forms. The third chapter is devoted to the leaving of children from the children?s home. Further there is a description of The Children?s Home in Kašperské Hory and projects that focus just on preparing for the leaving children from the institutional care. There are also described devices providing the accommodation of young people just after their staying in care. To carry out this investigation it was used a qualitative research, more precisely, the questioning method and a semi-structured interview technique. The group of respondents subjected to such talks, were young users of The Children?s Home in Kašperské Hory aged from 15 to 18 years including. Asked questions were structured into several groups according to these established areas the interviews were subsequently evaluated. The first set of questions was aimed at obtaining the essential information such as the age and the length of stay in the children?s home. The second range of issues mapped the area of education and training for the future profession Another area examined whether the users of the children?s home have access to financial funds and how they can handle with them. It was also found that about one third of them cannot manage properly with its limited financial resources. This was followed by questions to the relationships with their own biological family. The last and the most comprehensive set of questions concern the preparations for leaving the children?s home. It is absolutely clear that almost all respondents are not still ready to join the independent life. All interviewees agree that children?s home provides the necessary and sufficient services thanks to which the users gain some important skills to keep their homes. The statements also point to the fact that concerned young people have about their future virtually no ideas. About half of them do not know where or to whom they will go after leaving the institutional care. As well, almost each of the respondents was not interested in the possibility of emergency accommodation. There are many proposals to solve this issue in professional sources. The prevailing argument, which I am also a supporter, that the preparation for becoming independent should begin children?s homes as soon as possible, preferably at an early age. An important component of the preparation could be a so-called ?Individual planning for children?s homes users?. It means that each user could create a personal plan for current and future needs and plans. Last but not least, the training should also focus more on the training of practical skills such as handling finances, contracting or dealing with authorities.
Analysis of the quality of life of preadolescents adolescents with regard to circadian and diurnal rhythms in children's homes in the South Moravian Region.
PEVNÁ, Radka
The thesis deals with analysis of the quality of life of preadolescents and adolescents with regard to circadian and diural rhythms in children's homes in the South Moravian Region. The first part characterises concepta of quality of life, pubescent, adolescent, circadian and diural rhythms. The work is focused on the temporal area of quality of life. It described the importance and quality of sleep, sleep cycles and sleep typology. The research deals with the questionnaire survey a total of 110 respondents (60 pubescent, 50 adolescents). The research method consists of a selection of questions from a standardized questionnaire circadian typology, CIT Harada, Krejčí, 2010. The data are analyzed using basic statistical methods
The main reasons for removal children from their parents and handover to institutional or different alternative education. The cases dealt with OSPOD in Trhove Sviny from the years of 2001-2011.
PILEČKOVÁ, Jindra
The thesis follows up the concrete reasons that led to the suggestion of SPOD Trhové Sviny to remove a child from their parents and subsequent placement in foster care. The theoretical part describes a family, its functions, family relationships, parenthood and parenting disorders, incomplete family and foster family. Also briefly refers to the needs of children, their mental and emotional deprivation in early childhood and risk factors that have a major impact on children. Finally it follows up legislation, SPOD , institutional care and the types of institutional care facilities, where is a follow-up care after removal of the family. The practical part is focused on individual cases, case studies are divided into three basic groups. The division consists of more detailed specification of the main reasons for taking children from parents in all twelve cases. The thesis also pursues to social work with families realized by SPOD, their possibilities in preventive and advisory activities. Last mentioned activities are very important and indispensable. If they will be cover, there will be no cases described above so often.
Subdeprivation and its consequences for a school development of the child
ČÍŽKOVÁ, Eva
Dissertation serves for a cognition of a syndrom called psychological deprivation and subdeprivation. The theoretical part is used as defining specification the basic terms referring to the psychological deprivation, its characteristics and its manifestation. Part of the dissertation is also devoted to the subject of a substitute family case and children?s home as well. The practical part deals with the concrete research. There are two groups compared here ( children from the children?s home and children from functioning families ). These groups are mutually compared and evatuated on the basis of results achieved in a research of Prof. Matějček.

The material also quantifies the differences in various types of alternative care and tries to create optimal solution to the current situation.
Situation of children placed in the orphanage Žíchovec and children's contacts with their biological families.
VOJTOVÁ, Lenka
The dissertation focuses on mapping the life situations of children placed in the children?s home in Žichovec in the period between the years 2008 and 2010 and on examining the communication with their biological families. Quantitative research was used to gather information in order to achieve these goals and to verify certain hypotheses. Three research files were established. File No. 1 with the aim to map the life situations of children placed in the children?s home in Žichovec in the period between the years 2008 and 2010. An intrinsic part of this aim was to chart the situation in the families of these children in the given period. File No. 2 with the aim to examine the course of the children?s visits to their biological families, which occurred in the year 2010. Secondary data analysis was used in the case of the first two research files in order to reveal the content of the documents. The first file contained 56 children, who were accommodated at the children?s home in Žichovec in the years 2008 to 2010. The second file consisted of the families of these children, which counted 42. This was caused by four cases of a group of three siblings, five cases of a group of two siblings and a single case of an orphan. The life situations of the children were divided into four areas: 1. Personal case-history ? ethnicity, gender, age at time of joining the children?s home, age at time of leaving the children?s home, length of stay at children?s home, place of residence after leaving the children?s home, type of school at-tended. 2. Reasons for admission to the children?s home ? court order or preliminary measure regarding non-parental care, reasons given by the family, reasons given by the child. 3. Family case-history ? composition of family, number of siblings (both full sib-lings and stepsiblings), financial situation of family, accommodation. 4. Relationship with biological family ? form and frequency of contact with biolo- gical family in the Children?s Home, contact information, development of the vi sits in the Children?s Home, length of visits in the Children?s Home. Questionnaires were utilised in the case of the third research file, which consisted of 28 children, who had visited their biological families in the course of the year 2010. The questionnaire devised for the study contained fourteen questions aimed at the children?s contact with their biological families and the course of the visits from the per-spective of the children. Three hypotheses were established at the start of the dissertation, all of which proved to be correct: 1. The main reason for admission of children to the children?s home in Žichovec in the years 2008 to 2010 was a dysfunctional family environment. 2. The majority of these children were maintaining contact with their biological families. 3. The majority of the children, who left the premises of the children?s home in Žichovec on approval of its director in the year 2010 did so in order to visit their biological parents. The dissertation will be used for internal purposes of the children?s home, the information gathered will further be made available to all those who work in similar facilities and those who are interested in the issues involved. The conclusions of the dissertation can also be used as groundwork for solving negative elements in families by preventing them.
The Children´s Rights in Institutional Care.
KREJSOVÁ, Petra
The title of my diploma thesis is The Rights of Children in Institutional Care. It is composed of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with concepts such as the right, the child, a part deals with the characteristics of The Convention on the Rights of the Child or the Committee for the Rights of the Child. The research was carried out by means of the directed interview method (partly standardized method) applying a questionnaire created by professor Gary Melton and his team in Columbia, South Carolina. The questionnaire comprises identification questions (age, sex, class), four general questions dealing with conceptual understanding of law and twelve situations when the child adjudicates rights. The questionnaire was enhanced by 15 supplemental questions for children (created by prof. Dunovský and prof. Kovařík) delimiting the conceptual understanding of a ``good citizen{\crq}q. Further the questioning method was applied for the research by means of a questionnaire. The research file was made up by 80 children and 20 employees in total. Two goals were set in the paper. Goal 1: the paper aims at finding out whether children have their own rights. Goal 2: The paper checks whether rights of the child are respected in child care institutions. One hypothesis was set. H1: Legal awareness of children placed in children's homes is lower than legal awareness of children from a common primary school. I believe the goals have been fulfilled, however the hypothesis was not confirmed.
