Book as part of leisure activities in the after-school club

This bachelor thesis concerns book reading as part of leisure activities in after-school care. The goal of it is to outline the infrastructure of family reading through interviews with after-school care students and to also suggest reading related activities - recitals, discussions, opinion sharing etc. around the selected book of Miloš Kratochvíl - Puntíčkáři. These activities were completed by the creation of lapbook. They were not only conducted but also their efficiency was reflected through observations, afore-mentioned interviews and an analysis of the students' creations. The theoretical portion of this thesis presents after-school care in its historical and contemporary context as well as it shows its functions and goals. Concepts such as reading and reading literacy, personal development, communication skills, free time, leisure time education and reading strategies for children and youth, are introduced here. In the practical portion, reading strategies were applied when working with the book Puntíkáři by Miloš Kratochvíl. One of the stories from the book is also accompanied by lapbook. The use of classical and contemporary Children's literature to the reading literacy development of learners at 1st degree of elementary

The thesis deals with the use of classical and contemporary literature for the development of reading literacy at primary schools. We focused mainly on the research of popular literature of third to fifth grade primary pupils. We also investigated what extra-curricular reading materials teachers choose to develop their pupils' reading literacy and how they work with them. In the theoretical part, we present a brief insight into the issue of reading literacy, current research results, methods, strategies and factors influencing reading literacy. In the research part, we present the results of a questionnaire survey of pupils' parents, where the main attention was paid to the preferences of titles, authors and genres of their children. In the practical part, we followed up on the results of these surveys and designed worksheets with activities aimed at promoting reading comprehension and developing reading strategies. We focused mainly on their motivational and entertaining character. Worksheets with activities were verified in selected classes of primary schools and supplemented by rich reflection from practice.
Significant children's and young adult literature awards (recommended free time activities with a specific title)

This bachelor thesis maps important children's and youth literary awards and searches for uses of concrete books in leisure time activities. The thesis is seperated into a theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part defines children's and youth literature, describes specifications of these books and their possible uses. Then children's and youth literary awards are analysed and compared. Four concrete title are chosen based on the analysis of awarded titles in the past 5 years: Himálajské pohádky, Proč obrazy nepotřebují názvy, Velké dobrodružství Pepíka Střechy a Julie mezi slovy. These books make a starting point for proposed leisure time activities.
