Impacts of European Bailout Programs on SMEs Distress rate
Tóthová, Simona ; Parrák, Radovan (advisor) ; Schneider, Ondřej (referee)
Master Thesis - Simona Tothova Abstract This thesis empirically investigates impact of countries' bailouts on probability of SME segment distress. The impact is examined by multi-period logit model where dependent variable is distress rate and explanatory variables includes self-constructed bailout variable, several binary predictors and firm-specific and macroeconomic control variables. The hypotheses are tested on dataset for period from 2005 to 2013 including observations from seven European countries which received financial assistance program (bailout) from Troika. Every bailout from Troika comes with the requirement for austerity measures and our results suggest that impact of bailouts on SMEs probability of distress are depended on the success of application in individual countries and the impacts are more positive in non euro-zone countries. Multi-agent Network Models of Financial Stability
Klinger, Tomáš ; Teplý, Petr (advisor) ; Tripe, David (referee) ; Stavárek, Daniel (referee) ; Jakubík, Petr (referee)
The thesis focuses on banking regulation and on the nexus between financial sovereign crises. After illustrating the main mechanisms on the recent financial crisis, we construct several multi-agent network models of a financial system for testing its stability under different parameters. In the first part, we focus on the rationale for banking regulation and we describe its development including the recently introduced Basel III measures. The main conclusion of this part is that regulation is to a large extent influenced by the banks and it does not always secure financial system stability. In the second part, we build an agent-based model which enables us to simulate the impacts of various types of negative shocks given various settings of the banking system and the regulatory environment, including the capital and liquidity measures. Our simulations show firstly that sufficient capital buffers are crucial for systemic stability, secondly that the discretionary measures have little effect once a crisis breaks out and thirdly that liquidity measures are a relevant regulatory tool. In the third part, the model is extended so that it allows for testing effects of state support on systemic stability is tested with various parameter settings in Monte Carlo simulations and for testing of feedback loops in which...

Systemic risk and sovereign crises: modelling interconnections in the financial system
Klinger, Tomáš ; Teplý, Petr (advisor) ; Jakubík, Petr (referee)
This thesis focuses on the link between financial system and sovereign debt crises through sovereign support to banks on one hand and banks' exposures to weak sovereigns on the other. After illustrating the main relationships on the recent financial crisis, we construct an agent-based network model of an artificial financial system allowing us to analyse the effects of state support on systemic stability and the feedback loops of risk transfer back into the financial system. First, the model is tested with various parameter settings in Monte Carlo simulations and second, it is calibrated to the real world data using a unique dataset put together from various sources. Our analyses yield the following key results: Firstly, in the short term, all the support measures improve the systemic stability. Secondly, in the longer run, the effects of state support depend on several parameters but still there are settings in which it significantly mitigates the systemic crisis. Finally, there are differences among the effects of the different types of support measures.

Comparison and analysis of development of Greek and Latvian economy between years 2005 and 2014
Schier, Jan ; Vostrovská, Zdenka (advisor) ; Ševčíková, Michaela (referee)
The main topic of this bachelor thesis is development of the economy of Greece and Latvia. Period of observation is between years 2005 and 2014 because under this time both countries got into serious economic problems and it also incorporates period both before and after the main fall into recession influenced by global financial crisis. First part deals with theoretical basis of various indicators used to describe the economy of both countries. The analysis and comparison part examines the situation of both counties over the period to find causes of different evolution of economy in these countries that still overlaps into present time.
Ireland and Iceland and the Global Economic Crisis
Bořuta, Lukáš ; Žamberský, Pavel (advisor) ; Bič, Josef (referee)
The main objective of my thesis is to analyze and compare reactions of Iceland and Ireland to financial and economic crisis as well as the aftermath of the crisis and the process of recovery as direct consequence of these reactions. Both states had financial sector couple of times bigger than their GDP before the crisis and after the fall of Lehman Brothers they ran into some serious difficulties. However, states chose very different approaches to deal with a situation. Ireland decided to bailout its banks despite the huge increase in public debt and cost of taxpayers' money. Iceland allowed its banks to default and backed only domestic deposits. In my thesis I also analyze the fact that Ireland is a member of euro area and therefore does not possess independent monetary policy and Iceland has independent floating currency and implications that these facts had during and after the crisis on development of countries. In the last chapter I am analyzing possibilities of future development of economies and potential risks and challenges that lie ahead of them.
Dying and death in the conception of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
TOTHOVÁ, Eva
This work is focused on dying and exitus in understanding of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. How did this unique woman feel the end of life, what was the sense and the main contens of her life. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross gave most of her life to help incurables people, their families and friends. During her work she described and defined five periods of confirmed illneses´ incidence. She was exemplary hearer, friend, every patient was her master. She felt a possibility to be with deathwards, to listen and help them as a spirit of her life. She described three periods of exitus. She wanted to tell to all people her message by means of her work.
An analysis of the U.S. government and FED's bailout programs in times of 2008 financial crisis and their impact on the U.S. public debt
Vilímovský, Petr ; Havlíček, David (advisor) ; Stádník, Bohumil (referee)
The financial crisis of 2008 substantially affected global affairs in the early 21st century. Its epicentre lay in the U.S. real estate, mortgage and derivatives markets. In response to the crisis the U.S. government in cooperation with the Federal Reserve established a number of emergency provisions aimed at stabilizing the economy as well as stimulating growth. The objective of this thesis is to analyse the selected provisions in terms of their respective costs, impact on economic indicators and impact on the U.S. public debt. The practical part of this thesis is based on cost-benefit analysis and graphical analysis. Due to the large number of provisions only the most important ones with the highest actual or estimated costs have been analysed. It seems that the TARP program has been the biggest success as it helped to stabilize the interbank market while being poised to be profitable. The first QE is also deemed successful for it helped to start a desired increase in the price level during the period of deflation. The ARRA on the other hand had a minimal impact on the economy while entailing enormous costs. Same applies to the second QE which only led to a factual monetization of the U.S. public debt.
State aid to financial sector during financial crisis of 2008-2009 in USA and EU
Adamec, Michal ; Jílek, Josef (advisor) ; Jazic, Viktorija (referee)
Diploma thesis analyses state aid to financial sector provided by central banks and governments in USA and EU during recent financial crisis. In the deepest stage of the crisis central banks provided great amounts of liquidity in order to keep financial institutions afloat. Then, governments provided guarantees for debts which hepled financial institutions to finance themselves at lower costs. Capital injections and asset guarantees were also provided. In aggregate, the government measures had impact on reducing risk premiums but did not support stock prices. BoE and Fed implemented quantitative easing. Its only impact was decrease of yields of government bonds. All measures failed to restore robust growth of credit to real economy. There is a strong effect of the crisis and provided mesures on the increase of government debts.
