This diploma thesis is about data backup and following data archiving in real environment of concrete IT company engaged in software development. Theoretical knowledge concerning the area of data backup and data storages is described here. It also describes the current situation of data backup and problems with the current solution. There are suggestions for improving the current situation, including economic evaluation, to achieve efficient and most importantly secure data backup.

This bachelor thesis is based around creating Information system for auditors which will be able to create, to template and to archive audit reports. This system will also be able to search through database for all documents related to specific audit report. Furthermore it will provide reverse control of all calculations done in the report and check validity of licences owned by cooperating workers.

There is descripted a complete backup system as well as problems related to the system. There are mentioned suggestions for improvement of actual status to reach the maximum profit of it´s potential to allow to work faster, more transparent and more easily. The work contains as well the theoretical foundations, from which the improvement suggestion of actual status is patterned on.

Questions of Data Backup Storage in small and middle-sized Corporations

This bachelor thesis highlights the highly neglected importance of company data and their protection. The thesis helps to familiarize with backup process, the basic element of security and efficiency of information systems. There is presentation of results of international studies on topic "Cost of data lost" in the thesis. It also contains describes technology of RAID disk arrays, the topology of LAN networks, DAS, NAS and SAN. The most important part is summary of basic and more advanced backup methods for small and middle-sized entrepreneurs in dependency of their requirement and funds.

System for administering electronic archives

The objectives of this project are to create a concept of system for multimedia documents management and long-term archiving and its realization. The opening chapters are devoted to theoretical analysis of the expected characteristics of this systém and their implementation in open source document management system Alfresco, which was used for implementation. Other chapters are devoted to modifications made to this system, which are enhancements to work with multimedia content and its metadata. Also possibilities of connecting the system to other systems are mentioned. Finally, this document also describes testing the changes and adjustments according to various criteria.

Selection of a Suitable Backup Medium for a Specific Subject

The master‘s thesis deals with the topic of data backup from surgical procedures in the Havlíčkův Brod Hospital. Highly safe and quality work of medical staff in operating theatres goes hand in hand with highly sophisticated work of IT experts. The aim of the thesis is to provide a clear and uniform backup of data from all surgical procedures in this hospital. Such data backup can be considered as a pilot project, as no hospital in the Vysočina region has it yet. The theoretical sources in the first part of the thesis serve for the necessary understanding of the issue. The second part of the thesis analyses the current state of data backup in the company. The last part of the thesis presents its own proposal for the solution of data backup of surgical procedures in the Havlíčkův Brod Hospital according to the requirements of its employees.

OCR for tabular data

Table recognition is an important tool for digitalizing documents that con- tain tabular data, which often occur in areas of administration, finances and education. This thesis re-uses existing optical character recognition software to construct a new table recognition algorithm that aims to simplify the digitaliza- tion of diverse document types. The resulting algorithm achieves comparable or better results than currently available open-source software. Thesis additionally reviews common methods of OCR software implementation, and measures the influence of image preprocessing quality on the outcome of the table recognition. 1

Comparison of commercial deduplication solutions for data backup

Thesis focuses on data deduplication, mainly in medium-term advances, using commercial solutions. Principles used in disk arrays deduplication are not part of this document. The thesis specifically shows a brief introduction to deduplication, which serves as an example of why it was necessary to come up with an improved solution. This solution is sparse indexing method, which was created in the laboratories of Hewlett Packard Ltd. This method is discussed in more detail and shown in which solutions specifically can be found. Following the analysis of sparse indexing method is the evaluation of a particular solution of backup and deduplication from HP in comparison with a solution that offers some of its competitors. At the end, there is the evaluation and commentary of the results, together with the general recommendations and best practices from a real, large-scale, data structures. These recommendations are put as specifications for particular operational tasks associated with deduplication approaches and procedures.
