Game Environment from Music

The topic of this work is game environment generation from music. The main subject of this work is the music analysis. I am dealing with the problem of finding relevant information in music, which would be useful for game generating. The design of the system for music analysis, presented in this work, is based on the theory of signal processing and statistical classification. The proposed analysis of music is focused mainly on a beat detection, musical genre recognition and song segmentation. The second part of the work deals with the design of a game, which generates its environment from the data obtained in the music analysis. I have implemented the complete system for the music analysis and a prototype of the game, in which it is possible to evaluate the results from the analysis. The implementation and the achieved results are described in the conclusion of this work.
Automatic Generation of Steps for DDR

The goal of this work is to draft methods suitable for automatic creation of step-files from music files for a DDR computer dance game. This problem is divided into two main parts - beat detection, thus determining the song tempo, and determination of steps itselves. Beat detection is based on detection of energy growths in particual frequency subbands and following statistical alignment of results. Step creation works similarly, but it focuses on detection of all intense moments of music and contains a logic for placing steps into different directions. Testing by users showed that application has the potential to address players seeking set of simple steps for their favourite songs. The quality of beat detection gives field for application of these methods even beyond scope of example application. This document also suggest a few possible improvements of used methods.

This thesis is about music analysis and it's usage in game development in game engine Unity. With help of music analysis there is implemented path finding in procedural generated terrain. In development were used experimental methods and result is game, which generates path based on chosen song through procedural generated terrain and visualizes music.

Artificial Composition of Multi-Instrumental Polyphonic Music

David Samuel We propose a generative model for artificial composition of both classical and popular music with the goal of producing music as well as humans do. The problem is that music is based on a highly sophisticated hierarchical structure and it is hard to measure its quality automatically. Contrary to other's work, we try to generate a symbolic representation of music with multiple different instruments playing simultaneously to cover a broader musical space. We train three modules based on LSTM networks to generate the music; a lot of effort is put into reducing high complexity of multi-instrumental music representation by a thorough musical analysis. Our work serves mainly as a proof-of-concept for music composition. We believe that the proposed preprocessing techniques and symbolic representation constitute a useful resource for future research in this field. 1
Music Visualization in 3D

Music is an important part of our lives and music emotion recognition is an important field of study with many applications. In this work, we focus on music features extraction and subsequent creation of music emotion recognition system. We extend the work of Hun at al. [2009] in order to create a feed-forward neural network model that predicts emotions from music which we can use in visualization. We confirm the results and discuss their impact. We also provide a C# project to extract several features from music that can be used in Unity together with the demonstration scene that visualize these features. 1
