GIS Application Tool for Mobile Platforms

The aim of the thesis is to design and implement a GIS tool for mobile devices. The beginning of the thesis informs about the theoretical background of GIS and mapping. Subsequently, the thesis deals with the concept of a mobile mapping tool. The thesis describes the architecture and processes within the tool, as well as some details regarding its implementation. A mapping of a selected geographical location and a protocol summarising the mapping are also included within the thesis.

This bachelor thesis introduces geographic information systems, geographic data and shows professional applications of them in real world. Further it focuses on standardization of web geospatial services primarily WMS and WFS. In the practical part thesis describes usage of geographic information systems in two different companies and introduces potential improvements using WMS or WFS. This bachelor thesis introduces geographic information systems, explains the use of them in real world applications and shows specific cases, where such systems are used in. This thesis also aims to explain specific web map services, namely WMS and WFS. These two services are also used in the practical part of the thesis. The goal of the practical part is to create functional prototype of web application using map services. The purpose of this application is to support sportsmen in finding new sport paths on an interactive map.
