Autocentre VW group Brno
Hejcman, Josef ; Bílek, Zdeněk (referee) ; Dýr, Petr (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor thesis is the design of a car center for the VW Group in Brno. The car center includes a showroom with the sale of new cars from the brands VW, Seat, Škoda, and Audi, a spare parts shop, and a service center. The site under consideration is located in the Brno – Komárov district, between Sokolova and Hněvkovského streets. There is a planned construction of a road from Sokolova Street on the site, dividing it into two parts, with the car center situated in the larger part along Hněvkovského Street. The new road will provide access to the facility for vehicles. The proposed car center is a standalone two-story building consisting of two prismatic-shaped volumes connected to each other with a trapezoidal footprint. It is a structure with two halls made of a steel skeletal system with a reinforced concrete core between them. The halls are differentiated in terms of height, function, and color. The roof is green (vegetative) and equipped with solar panels. The showroom for the sale of new cars and the spare parts shop are located in the taller hall, which features a prominently glazed column-truss facade. This facade is followed by a Dri Design Tapered cassette system in a dark blue color (RAL 5026) at the level of the roof's supporting structure. The service area with a warehouse is situated in the smaller, more expansive hall, and its facade consists of vertically laid sandwich panels with a smooth surface in a light color (RAL 9016), and horizontally laid sandwich panels in the color RAL 5026 in columns around the doors and windows. The halls thus contrast with each other. The hygiene facilities for employees are located in the reinforced concrete core.

The theme of my bachelor work is a new building of Volkswagen carcenter. Carcenter is placed in Brno city nearby square Cejl. Next to the parcel is river Svitava. Architecture volume is divided to four functional parts: showroom, warehouse, administration and background and service. Showroom is placed on the most visible part of parcel. Showroom with glass façade is dominanting volume of whole car center. To the showroom is connected administration with nice view to the river Svitava and warehouse with good connection to delivery of goods. Service is last part of carcenter. Floorplan form of service in shape L saves build up space of the parcel.

Topic of the Bachelor Thesis is a design of the new car centre for VW group. The new building is located at the vacant plot in the city district Brno-Zábrdovice. The main area of the plot is registered as a brownfield number 3402 with former industrial production. The plot is defined by the streets Cejl and Jana Svobody on its north and south boundary, where the connection between those two streets is a typical element of the area. The east boundary is defined by the river Svitava. The plot is slightly sloping to the river. The building is divided into three separate volumes. Each of them is equal to the specific function – showroom, storage and car repair shop for VW, Škoda, Audi and Seat. The designed car centre is a single-storey steel industrial building without cellar. The part of the showroom includes offices on the first floor. The main structural system is defined by the steel frame structure – steel columns and truss girders. Vertical structural elements consist of two U280 steel profiles (showroom) and HEA 260 steel profiles (storage, car repair shop). Horizontal structural elements consist of steel truss girders and steel IPE profiles. Bracing system is designed as a combination of reinforced concrete walls and steel rods. The steel structure is based on reinforced concrete foundation pads with drilled piles. Foundation pads are connected by reinforced concrete strip foundations. The glazed curtain walling of the building’s envelope is formed by Schüco facade system, which is complemented with the significant aluminium shading system of vertical lamellaes Alaris. The rest of the external facades is demonstrated through the Kingspan’s insulated metal wall panels with vertical grooves. Floor and roof structures are defined by trapezoidal sheet with composite concrete slab. Roofing is designed as a warm flat roof with internal roof drains for the whole building. The waterproofing layer is made of SBS modified bitumen membranes.

Experience of R&D cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors
Machan, Jaroslav
The fast process of globalisation and, as a result, the increasing pressures of worldwide competition require intensification of cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors at both national and multinational levels. The presentation outlines selected topics and identifies areas that should develop such cooperation and make it more effective as the next step. Primarily, these include: Selected factors limiting cooperation on the academic side, Deficiencies in the methods of approaching joint projects, Different ideas of time constants in joint projects, Clearly set key responsibilities of the respective worksites, Possible factors of reinforcing the cooperation. Furthermore, the presentation outlines ŠKODA Auto Development Department experience of cooperation with the academic sector in joint projects, specifically: R&D projects funded from non-public resources (ŠA's direct contracts, contracts of VW Research), R&D projects funded from public resources (EU, Czech Republic), Training & education projects funded from public resources (esf).
