The Raising of Lazarus

The purpose of the Bachelor thesis "The Raising of Lazarus: Exegesis and Spiritual Message of John 11:1-46" is a focus on the narrative in John's Gospel presenting the crucial sign of Jesus public ministry before his passion and the chain of events connected with this miracle. Consequently, it contains a brief characteristic of John's Gospel which is linked to the authorship and source. At the same time it focuses on the context, relationships, descriptions and reference in John's Gospel which this story brings. But above all it reflects the theological meaning of the Jesus' ministry and the miracles that are undestood as "signs." The main theme is the Jesus greatest miracle which he performed at the end of his public ministry where he claims to be the Resurrection and the Life as the One who can give eternal life impervious to death. The words which Jesus said to Martha prior to the raising of Lazarus from the dead are the main theme in this essay. They explain the connection and continuity between faith and life and enlighten the inner theological relations in this episode.

Jesus walking on the sea, Matt 14: 22-33 in context of Peter's pericopes in the Matthew's Gospel.

One of the Matthew's Gospel pericopes is the main subject of this Bachelor thesis entitled "Jesus walking on the water". The thesis focuses in particular in the personality of the apostle Peter and aims to depict his life by Jesus' side. The first chapter comprises of basic characteristics of the Matthew's Gospel including the history of the times of its origin. The chapter contains information about the overal structure of the Gospels, sources used by Matthew, the author himself and about the readership this Gospel was addressed to. Second chapter consists of two parts. The first of them follows up apostle's Peter general characterisics, as his origin, his profession and social classification, place where he was born and lived and his original name as well as the name he gained. Selected Peter's pericopes (Mt 4,18-20; 16,13-20; 17,24-27; 18,21-22) are analyzed in the second part of the second chapter taking into account Peter's mission and his significance in them. The key part of this thesis deals with the main pericope's "Jesus walking on the sea" (14,2-33) analysis and apostle's Peter involvement in it, his importance and his unique role in the Christian history and early Church. Speech act theory in the field of theology in Mark´s gospel speaking about Jesus as the Son of God

The purpose of this dissertation is to inquire into the application of the Speech act theory in the field of theology. First, philosophical part introduces distinctive topics of language-philosophy found in Wittgenstein, Austin and Searle. The main focus of this summary lies on Searle`s categorization of speech acts. If we approach Searle`s categorization from the perspective of Wittgenstein`s philosophy, we could understand his categorization in functional and not ontological terms and therefore we find a certain liberty to modify Searle`s categorization with regard to analysed phenomenon. In the beginning of the theological part we analyse the limits of the application of the speech act theory in the case of the confession of faith. Consequently we construct categorization of the speech acts of faith discourse based on its communicative and transformative dimensions. Afterwards we focus on one of the main types of faith discourse, namely the petitionary prayer. During analysis of the petitionary prayer in the Old and New Testament we gradually introduce considerable insights of theologians who applied Austin`s and Searle`s concepts in their work. These are followed up by our own observations. Second section of the theological part of the dissertation is concerned with the application of speech act theory in exegesis of particular texts, namely those passages in Mark`s gospel which speak about Jesus as the Son of God. Speech act theory evidently could not serve to settle exegetical disagreements by always locating the precise illocutionary point of every speech act, however it proves itself as a good tool for conceptual orientation and its application brings valuable insights.

Concept of power in the Gospel of John

The thesis deals with the power in the Gospel of John, specifically with the term EXOUSIA, which means power or authority. This thesis engages in separate passages of the Gospel of John in which the evangelist uses the term EXOUSIA, it examines its context in which was the term used and tries to determine in which meaning it is used. Thereby,this thesis tries to answer the question what does the evangelist understand under the term power (EXOUSIA).
