Ideal Crisis Management Mechanism for Credit Institutions and Investment Firms in the European Union
Kropjok, Vít ; Kohajda, Michael (referee)
Ideal Crisis Management Mechanism for Credit Institutions and Investment Firms in the European Union Abstract: The 2007-8 financial crisis brought about the most severe economic contraction since the Great Depression. Regulators on both sides of the Atlantic were taken aback and soon realized that they had no tools to deal with distressed banks and other financial services firms, failure of which could undermine financial stability not only within individual states, but also on a global scale. As a result, central banks of in particular the United States and the Eurozone became the most important actors in the fight against the unfolding crisis and de facto the only "governmental agencies" capable of swift and decisive measures. Their timely and vigorous reaction most likely warded off the collapse of the global financial system, though it was not without controversies. These controversies are analyzed in this dissertation in order to find out what role should central bank have during financial crisis. Governments followed central banks with massive bank bailouts. In many countries, governments went beyond liquidity provision and nationalized their banks, which threatened their own solvency. Although the global financial system has been largely restored in the last decade, it has been achieved at huge...

The goal of my thesis on Supervision over the banking industry in the EU member states is to describe critically and to define newly engendering concept of the banking union. It is a very actual topic because the effective mechanism creation, which should solve problems of the European banking sector, is currently one of the primary goals of the European Union. The study is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is the theoretical one. The definition and differentiation of the essential terms such as supervision and surveillance can be found there. Further the basic theoretical modules can be found there, from which it is possible to stem during the banking supervision implementation in practice. The second and the third chapters are the analytical parts. The introduction of the second chapter glances at the backgrounds of the legislative proposals acceptance in this area. Afterwards the chapter is already focused on four pillars of the proposed Banking union. The first pillar is formed with so called "single rule book", thus the uniform regulatory rules that are the implementation of the requirements expressed in so called Basel III. Analysis of the approaches of Central and Eastern European countries towards their membership in the Banking union
Samuelis, Tomáš ; Dvořák, Petr (advisor) ; Fleischmann, Luboš (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to analyze the approaches of countries in Central and Eastern European region towards their membership in the Banking Union. The selected topic has been investigated based on structural characteristics of the banking sectors of the impacted countries. The comparison of these characteristics resulted in identification of inconsistencies between the 2 standpoints (Opt-in and Opt-out). The thesis monitors the motivation of banks in choosing or changing the legal form of 'their' banks in host markets. The work identifies areas in which the host government can act to prevent banks from converting into branches, thus retaining the regulatory powers in local authorities. The thesis in the first 2 chapters maps the first and the second pillar of the Banking Union, Single Supervisory Mechanism and the Single Resolution Mechanism respectively. Furthermore, it summarizes the results of the European Central Bank in carrying out the Comprehensive Assessment exercise.

Another task of the work is to assess impacts of participation of the Czech Republic in the Banking Union. The research question is whether voluntary participation in the Banking Union is advantageous for the Czech Republic or not. The bachelor's thesis consists of three chapters. Konupková, Lenka ; Blahová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Kaimova, Nadira (referee)
The aim of the thesis "Banking union" is to analyze and describe the concept of banking union, with respect to development and harmonization of rules before crisis. In addition to description of 4 pillars of Banking union the thesis tries to reveal the risks connected with rules harmonization and power centralization in hands of ECB. The obligatory membership is conditioned by common currency Euro, therefore there is an opportunity to analyze the potential benefits for states with own currency. This will be done in separate chapter 4th using Czech Republic as example. Thesis will be also enriched with opinion of politics and economist to which own authors comment will be added.
